1.2Tb wired data Cap in January?

Hello,
Is 1.2Tb data Cap in January real for wired customers? Or rumor?

I really hope not. Since I need the connection for work, I stream 2x 1080 sources through Teradicci remote workstations and I regularly use more than 1.4Tb in a month. We already pay $100 per month for service.

I've been happy with this service for several years now, but I am not willign to pay $25 extra for nothing.  At that point, it would actually be cheaper/better for us to get internet through cell service, since we already pay for phones, and it would cost less than $100 per month for us to upgrade to unlimited 5g, so we could just shift that expense to our cell provider.
Thanks for any info.

Have you  tried using your phone for net? It was ok doing light work like web browsing. Video conferance stuttered. Honestly I was paying  50 for unlimited . So my bill in total was 280 a month. still worth it over having a cap.  to be honest  our data cap was 1 tb before we moved to unlimited. 5G might be decant for watching movies and  stuff but you might not find it enough speed to stream proficiently. I mean You could test it out . I kind of get why they doing this though.

Due to covid and everyone working from home and also schooling from home that's a lot of strain on cable companies. I  get the frusteration though but I don't think anyone was prepared for this Pandemic  and xfinity/comcast included.

I honestly don't think they were prepared for the massive increase in the demands of their service . Nor were they prepared for the strain onto their nodes either .

I mean look before all this those of us who worked at home before it was a big thing it wasn't a big deal because the average user used the net  sparingly. It's all changed now.  I think perhaps they are putting this into place in hopes that  the strains would lifts as not everyone would  go unlimited.

So, I just saw this article, and found it very interesting, especially today, when so many people are spending so much more time at home. How fascinating that Xfinity has decided that now, when people need the bandwidth more than ever, it's a great time to put on data caps, and raise rates for overages.

Did anyone think about what a boon that might be for Verizon FiOS? Because I gotta tell you, that's where my mind is heading. Anyone else?

The official word: https://corporate.comcast.com/stories/our-nationwide-data-plan

Also, users can track their data usage by logging in to https://customer.xfinity.com/#/devices and scrolling down to "Data Usage Overview".

The data caps have existed in most states Comcast serves for around 4 years.  Supposedly the reason they didn't have them in Northeastern states was because Verizon was a strong competitor there.  So, yes, they thought of that, however, it looks like they have decided that isn't such a big deal anymore?

Will the new 1.2TB data cap in Massachusetts apply if I am under a 2 year agreement?  If so, will there still be a penalty if I cancel my services?

Thank you for the input, @CCAndrew   Will certainly be contacting the office of the Massachusetts Attorney General if this is the case.  Having 4 kids part time remote learning from home, and working from home myself, I never would have switched over from FIOS if this was the case at the time of signing the contract over the summer.

Good luck, it’s in the fine print of the contract that they make changes anytime.

You can upgrade to truly unlimited data.

I've already started looking at ditching comcast for my cell provider or another local internet provider that does not data cap, ohs thats everyone else but xfinity here LOL. Totaly usage like 3TB with three kids virtual school and teleworking. Ive already used my cell for a citrix connection running three 1080 screens and my work files are all on a remote drive and works just fine. So I'll see what happens janurary but... already called century link and pa.net two other providers.

We just went Internet only a couple months ago and have a 2 yr locked in rate.  When Comcast imposes the 1.2 Terabyte in Massachusetts goes into effect will i be subject to additional charges?

if so will this not void my contract?

I see there is the possibility to pay once again additional for the "unlimited" plan... I have tried everything to find out if i am on an Unlimited data plan.  But i am sure that i am not.

any way i can find out the answers?

thank you

So after all of these years you decide to impose a data cap and during a pandemic. Really? I have defended this company constantly for being the best service for their customers but now it's turning into the same garbage everyone else has. You can add unlimited data.

As costs to cable companies increase in order to stay productive they have to pass along price increases to the customers.  No one likes paying more for service, but without that service, you wouldn't have the ability to access other services.  And, FWIW, with the exception of Sling TV all the streaming services are raising their rates.
