1000/100 plan, modem caps upload at 25

Hi, I got upgraded to the gigabit plan, and the plan description says 1000/100 speeds. SB8200 modem. I get about 950 down because all my equipment has gigabit ethernet, and I'm not interested in upgrading for the tiny boost to 1000. But my upload is still capped at the 25 that it's been at for years.

I suspect that at least in my market the gigabit bootfile is still capping the modem upload speed at 25 and that 100 is not actually possible. It is very consistently below that cap, it doesn't fluctuate. Can someone confirm this for me and save me the hassle of having a tech visit and tell me the same thing.

According to this ArsTechnica article from October 24th, 2022, the 100 Mbps upload speeds are only available to those who purchase "xFi Complete." If you scroll down to the section titled Comcast vague on timing for user-owned hardware, a company spokesperson provides more information in standard Xfinity fashion. I'm curious if there's more up-to-date information on how the process of providing higher upload speeds to those who own their own modem is going.

Xfinity sent a email out on the 20th saying you’ll no longer need xfi complete to get the upgraded upload speeds. The sudden change to me must indicate they were about to get hit with a massive lawsuit or something in my opinion.

Anyway the email didn’t state what day non xfi complete and 3rd party modem users would be receiving the new uploads speed.

I’m not sure what the requirements were for that email to be sent out but if it matters I’m on the 2 gig down 200 up plan with xfi complete on a xb8 router and yes I do see those upload speeds regularly as high 233.

I was told on 7/24 that I still needed to have an Xfinity box to get better than 25Mbps uploads. So they stopped troubleshooting and called it a day. (Netgear Nighthawk CM2000, on their compatibility list for highest speeds.)

Hi, everyone. I hope all is well. I see you had some questions about the upload speeds for your plan @tjsynkral. We have a really great guide here, which I recommend you visit. Depending on the speed tier and if you are part of the Next Gen Speed rollout, eligible customers will need a leased XB7 or XB8 xFi Advanced Gateway with xFi complete.

There may be cases/plans like with @SRTology who listed they have Gigabit x2 that no longer needs xFi Complete for their current upload speeds, but an Xfnity Gateway will still be needed.

But the email posted says "... coming soon xFi Complete will no longer be a requirement for you to receive these upload speeds so long as you use a compatible Xfinity Gateway or third party modem. ...". Which statement is correct?

@BruceW that is a great question. At this time the speed increase still requires xFi Complete and the Gateway. We do not have a date to the changes being made available. As soon as there is a date our customers would be made aware. I appreciate you being patience.

Does anyone have an update on this? What’s the requirements for getting the upgraded upload speeds?

I have 800 down 100 up, but I’m currently only getting 25 up

Hello @Agolchub ! The first thing to determine is if you are in an area that has been upgraded yet. And if you have a compatible device. Did you receive any correspondence from us about being ready for the speed update?

Only four retail modems are approved right now otherwise you still need a XB6, XB7 or XB8.

If you go to the link it shows what areas have the upgraded speeds.

[Edited: "Language"], I have a Motorola MB8611 Docsis 3.1 which is advertised as "certified by Xfinity" but it's not on their list, I wonder why they care what modem you're using.

@user_q1hae6 careful, you replied on topic to a thread over a month old. [Edited: "Inflammatory"]

But don't worry, I'll create it first because I have the same issue, and am royally [Edited: "Language"] at Xfinity for this heavy handed non-standard [Edited: "Language"]. DOCSIS was developed for a reason, and this is blatantly Xfinity ignoring that standard. The 8611 is rated for a full 1gb upload.

Hi there, @user_q1hae6. We work with the manufacturers to have certain specifications to best support our service. The compatible modem list is updated as devices meet our requirements. This is to ensure your service works great and is reliable.

You can find the list of compatible modems here, https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices/. Once you search if you slide to the bottom of the page there is a button that says All Compatible Devices. That will bring up the full list of compatible modems. The Next Generation modems are listed at the top of the page. Here is the most recent list.
