Xfinity Stream on Apple TV intermittently gives TVAPP-00244 until force-quit

I am seeing a recurring problem with the Xfinity Stream app on all 4 of my Apple TV 4K, model A1842 devices in my home on differnt Sony TVs. The app opens normally, but when I select a live channel it will sometimes return error TVAPP-00244 and no channels will play. I am below the five simultaneous in-home stream limit. The Apple TVs remain connected to the Internet and other Apple TV apps work normally.

The important reproducible finding is that force-quitting only the Xfinity Stream app and immediately reopening it restores live TV every time. I do not need to restart the Apple TV, television, Xfinity Gateway, or network. This appears to be an Xfinity Stream app/session-resume issue on tvOS rather than a television, HDMI, network, or simultaneous-stream-limit problem.

Could an Xfinity employee please escalate this to the Xfinity Stream Apple TV/tvOS engineering team and determine whether TVAPP-00244 after app suspension/resume is a known defect? The reliable recovery by force-quitting the Stream app may help reproduce the issue.

user_ufw9ce Hello, are you still having issues using Xfinity Stream on your TV's?

Yes I am still having problems.  I called and spoke to an Xfinity agent and then coincidentally or not had a few days without error TVAPP-00244.  The error started again.

We appreciate you keeping us posted, user_oq647m! Did the issue stop occurring on all four Apple TVs and continue, or did it start happening on one and not the others?

the error has returned, although it is less frequent than previously. I force quit the app and i’m then able to get the channel normally

I am having an issue in which force quitting no longer restores the stream. Why is Xfinity not addressing this?

Force quitting works every time for me. Apparently it is improved since it happens less often 0n each of my 4 TVs; about once per week. Can the Xfinity folks continue working on it?

On Apple TV, the full sequence is: double-press the TV/Home button on the Apple Remote to open the app switcher, then swipe up on the app’s preview to force quit it.

Could an Xfinity employee please escalate this to the Xfinity Stream Apple TV/tvOS engineering team and determine whether TVAPP-00244 after app suspension/resume is a known defect?  And maybe fix the problem?

Thank you so much for reaching out and adding your voice to the conversation here on our Forums,

user_ysrlyv. Is this still an issue for you? In addition to the Xfinity Stream reset, we do also recommend a soft reset of the modem equipment and an X1 system refresh on the main X1 cable box (if you have one in the home; if not, then the main modem refresh is ok)
