XFinity Stream as Tivo replacement
Hi,
I have been using a Tivo setup on 3 TVs with one XL4 main box and two Tivo mini boxes. My main box recently broke, so I'm considering ending Tivo and use an Xfinity solution instead. My hope is that I can use Xfinity Stream on my TVs or attached streaming devices. When looking around I noticed that most TV-attached streaming devices like Apple TV or Google Chromecast don't work.
I'm willing to buy a few streaming devices (Roku, Firestick, Chromecast, etc) to make it work, what would make most sense to utilize my Xfinity cable to enjoy on-demand TV on my 3 TVs?
Thanks,
Alex

you didn't mention DVR function but what you said will work. most packages come with one non-DVR HD set top box in the package with option to upgrade for $10 to DVR. you will need the HD technology fee included in the package or as a separate item to have HD on the Roku.

The best way would be to have one X1 DVR box (probably an xg1v4, expecially if you have a 4k TV) and then either non-dvr X1 boxes at your other sets or you can use a roku or fire tv with the xfinity app. The X1 box will be more convenient because the remote has channel number buttons plus voice control - and you don't have to wait for an app to load to start up. If some of the TVs are not used very often the streaming device might be good enough.
The cost of the X1 boxes may depend on how old your contract is. On my recent one they are billed at $5/box per month, with an extra $10/month DVR fee. If you don't have a physical DVR you still get 20 hours of 'cloud' recording. On my previous contract they were billed at $9.95/box so that might still apply if you have not renewed recently. I have a roku and had considered returning the X1 box at that TV, but with the price lowered to $5/month I'm keeping it.
