Web Stream Portal: In-Progress DVR Recordings Disable Fast Forward (Metadata/Duration Bug)

Over the past week, I have been unable to fast-forward in-progress ("in-flight") Cloud DVR recordings when watching via the web portal on Windows 11.

The Symptoms:

  • The Fast-Forward / Skip Forward button is completely disabled/greyed out in the web player.

  • The scrub bar registers as filled to the end (2:01:30), locking the playhead and making it impossible to seek forward through commercial breaks while watching behind real-time.

  • Looking at the Saved Recordings list, the metadata calculation is clearly broken—one recording displays an impossible duration of "3625min left" instead of the actual remaining broadcast time.

  • Once a broadcast concludes completely and converts to a static Cloud DVR asset, playback and forward seeking return to normal.

(Attaching screenshots showing the greyed-out fast forward button / pinned playhead, as well as the '3625min left' metadata error).

Troubleshooting Already Completed (Issue Persists):

  • Tested in both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on Windows 11 (identical behavior in both).

  • Cleared all site cookies, cache, and local storage data for xfinity.com.

  • Toggled Hardware / Graphics Acceleration off and on.

  • Attempted keyboard navigation shortcuts (Right Arrow, L).

  • Ran a "Sync DVR" command on our physical X1 equipment.

Crucial Detail: This issue is isolated to the web browser player. Playing the exact same in-progress recording on the Xfinity Stream iOS app works perfectly—the live buffer is recognized, scrubbing is fluid, and skip controls function normally.

This points directly to a manifest/metadata parsing bug in the web player rather than a client-side browser cache or network issue. Could an official Comcast/Xfinity representative please escalate this to the web platform engineering team?

user_n1qgg3 Thank you for letting us know, I will need to pull up your account to investigate this further. If you could send our team a direct message with your full name, the name listed on the account (if different), and the service address associated with your account, I'd be more than happy to look into this for you. Click "Sign In" (If necessary). Click the "Direct Messaging" Icon. Click the "Start New Conversation" (pencil and paper) icon. In the “To:” line, type "Xfinity Support". As you type, a drop-down list will appear. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list. An "Xfinity Support" graphic will replace the "To:" line. Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window. Press Enter to send it. How to: Direct Message Within The Forum.

@XfinityDemetrise I have been with Comcast for 31 years. I have been having the exact same problem while streaming on my laptop over the last three weeks. I don’t understand why it is taking your engineers so long to address this issue.

I am having the same issue for the first time ever. Last week I was able to fast forward and toggle the slider during a in  progress recording while watching on my Chrome browser. This week I am unable to. I have cleared cache, closed the browser, logged out and logged back in. Nothing changes.

I wanted to provide a quick update for anyone tracking this or experiencing the same bug. I followed up via Direct Messaging with Xfinity support to see if this could be escalated, but unfortunately, the front-line workflow is entirely hardwired to physical equipment troubleshooting.

Despite providing a comprehensive technical breakdown upfront—proving via cross-platform testing (working fine on the Xfinity Stream iOS app, broken exclusively on the Windows/Chrome/Edge web portal) and clarifying that no modem or physical X1 DVR box is involved—the support session stalled out in a Tier 1 script loop. I was taken through identity verification, offered irrelevant modem resets/technician truck rolls, and asked redundant click tests.

Because front-line chat support lacks a pathway to escalate software manifest/metadata parsing errors without forcing hardware troubleshooting first, I have closed the chat session. Hopefully, the detailed symptoms captured in the initial post (the '3625min left' duration bug and greyed-out fast-forward on in-flight recordings) make their way to the web engineering team so a proper platform patch can be deployed.

@user_n1qgg3  you should get consulting fees for your technical knowledge and effort in helping them fix the problem they created, that we all suffer through, for over a month now.  completely ridiculous and embarassing for them imo.

@user_n1qgg3 I'm having similar issues. The RW and FF bar are all messed up and every recording starts from the beginning EVERY time. So you can't stop and come back or the entire show starts over. I read somewhere else in another thread that their engineers know. It was like a person was saying they were told engineers were working on it and it's a known issue while other Xfinity support people were still saying it's not a known issue. Makes me laugh.

Our Internet still show 300mbps in one location online and 500mbps in another. They couldn't increase our upload speeds without a tech coming and making calls. He needed to confirm we were in a NextGen speed area even though we had fast uploads for many many months and then they randomly slowed. He had to make a bunch of calls and they couldn't get the appropriate file to our modem on the backend. So he and I problem solved and he upgraded out Internet to super fast, we tested it and it pushed the file, then we reversed back to our slower (and more affordable) Internet and it stuck. Like, LOL, he's on the phone getting paid big bucks for a LONG time and the solution was to increase our speed to is pushes a new provisioning (cause they couldn't do it manually) and then change back to slower speed.

Xfinity makes me laugh sometimes.

Anyway, I think someone on that thread mentioned an update to everything October 10th, if I'm remembering correctly. So only 4 more days if that's true LOL Otherwise, seems like a waste of time on here if they're just having everyone run through the basic "restart your computer" garbage. Best of luck everyone!

1) Delete recording.

2) Go back to Live, select the program and start recording again.

3) Go to Saved/Recordings, at the bottom of the list, you'll find Deleted Recordings the latest of which is the one you just deleted - select Recover.

4) You now have 2 partial recordings of your program (hopefully without much lost in between) - but the first part will now function as a completed program allowing you to RWD/FF as normal.

STILL NOT FIXED (for me) - 10/09/2026

I am having the same problem, which has persisted for a several weeks. When I called last week, the frontline CS person connected me with someone from Advanced Tech Support, who told me that this issue had been reported and that they were working on. But the problem persists - and when I tried calling back this morning I could not get past frontline support, who insisted all they could do was troubleshoot my system. When that didn't work they said I needed to have a technician come out - which will no doubt be a waste of my and time and theirs, since the machine itself is recording properly and playback works fine on my connected TV. Hugely frustrating. This happens on both my Windows 11 PC and my Android phone.

@DAN.PET Yeah, same issue. Windows 11, fully updated Windows OS, fully update browser, cleared all the histories and such a couple of times over the last few days, doesn't work on Edge, Chrome, or Firefox. Recordings all restart at the beginning if you try to drag the slider, RW and FF don't work, etc.

The techs on here are better than Xfinity's other options, but this definitely needs to be escalated. Another post said the issue with Stream on TV's was "fixed". So maybe they're slowly fixing things. It's hilarious that some techs on here replying seem to confirm engineers working on it (at least for some devices) and others have no idea and just say there's no known issue. Like, don't they work from the same database and can't they see active issues? Kinda comical if they can't.

@jdawg90 And here's the other thing I just noticed this morning: Once I've set a program to record and the recording is in progress, if I then try to stream it live, say, half an hour into the program, instead of picking up at that point in time the stream reverts to the very beginning - and won't let me fast forward.

@DAN.PET yeah, I noticed that with football last weekend. I had a game recording I didn't really care about and it kept kicking me back to the beginning when I tried watching live while it was recording. I deleted the recording and then I could watch live.

Something is really messed up with it. I'd like to know what they were trying to change that triggered it all.

The login page for the billing side of things was horrendously glitchy last night, too. That happened a year or two ago where you literally couldn't log in for a long time.

I have been having the same issue and it has been driving me nuts.  I tried chrome and edge, cleared cache/cookies, tried incognito and private mode all with no success.

Comcast simply chooses to ignore us. SHAME.  This issue has been posted by myself and others for months.

I just noticed with Green Bay and Chicago recording, when I'm using my laptop, if I select to watch "live TV" it automatically uses the recording and starts from the very beginning of the game. LOL I didn't notice that before. Is that a new broken thing or was that happening to others, too? I had to delete the recording to watch the game live. Maybe this was happening before and I just forgot.

Not sure, but I first noticed it yesterday - and it's especially maddening if you're watching a long live sporting event, where you may need to pause & then resume later. "Resume" has been rendered inoperative.
