Streaming to 3 TV’s - how to eliminate the boxes

I presently have the DVR box on our main Samsung TV. I have two additional TVs and use boxes on them. The main TV is a smart TV but the Streaming App will not work on it. The other 2 are older TV’s so no App there either.

Can I use Roku on both of the older TV’s and stream from the main TV that has the DVR box on it. I am trying to eliminate the 2 boxes and save some $ or could I drop the DVR box and replace it with Roku and still have recording capability?

Thank you for that information. So if I have 3 TV’s and install each with a Roku or Firestick can each TV view programs separately? Can each record separately or just one would be able to use DVR?

If I keep the DVR box on the main TV can I still set up Roku on the other 2 TV’s without issue and maintain all the functions of the DVR box?

How do you set up cloud recording/DVR?

Yes, you will be able to set a recording and watch separate programs on other devices. Your Main DVR will work perfectly fine if you have two other Roku devices at home. Personally I have My DVR and 1 Roku box in my spare room. No issues at all. The cloud DVR should be active now if you have DVR in the home already. You will just need to sign in to the Xfinity Stream app to see what is recorded.

I no longer work for Comcast.

Good morning, and thank you for reaching out through our Community Forums page for help with your streaming abilities on your TVs, @Scorpio49! I love using the Xfinity Stream app on our mobile devices to watch my DVR content and stay current on my favorite shows- I've even watched a few football games from the boat while out fishing! You've come to the right place for help with your questions today!

While I currently use the Stream app on my phone, I have been looking into a new TV that is capable of streaming services, so that I can use the app on the TV and not have an additional box myself. I love that we have an app available that allows us to do so!

If you decide to return your cable boxes and go with a Roku device, here are some things to know:

Currently, the Xfinity Stream app for Partner Devices doesn't support the following features:

    • Control through your Xfinity Voice Remote.

    • Movie and TV show rentals through Xfinity On Demand (Available on Roku and Amazon Fire TV; not available on LG or Samsung Smart TVs).

    • Pay Per View event rentals.

    • Xfinity apps on X1 such as Voicemail, xFi and My Account, and features such as the Sports companion experience.

    • Apps and streaming channels such as Pandora, YouTube and Netflix. These apps may be available through the Partner Device's platform.

Do I need to rent an Xfinity DVR-capable TV Box to get DVR service on my Partner Device?
No. If you use a Partner Device, you can subscribe to Xfinity's DVR service without renting a DVR-capable TV Box from Comcast. You can access and manage your recordings from the Xfinity Stream app on Partner Devices.

If you're a current Xfinity TV customer with DVR and you rent an Xfinity TV Box or use a Partner Device to access the Xfinity Stream app, you can set and delete your DVR recordings directly on your Xfinity TV Box and/or your Partner Device.

I already subscribe to Xfinity TV. If I return my Xfinity DVR-capable TV Box, will I still have access to the recordings that were stored on that box using the Xfinity Stream app?
If you're an X1 DVR customer, you'll be able to keep some of the recordings from your Xfinity DVR TV Box in the cloud and access them through the Xfinity Stream app. Legacy (non-X1) DVR customers will lose the recordings stored on legacy TV Boxes.

The Xfinity Stream app is available on the following Roku devices:

    • Roku TVs: A000X, C000X, 5000X, 6000X, 7000X, 8000X, G000X, E000X, D000X

    • Roku Streaming Media Players:

        • Roku Ultra (4340X, 4640X, 4660X, 4670X, 4800X), Roku Ultra LT (4662X)

        • Roku Express (3700X, 3900X, 3930X) and Express+ (3710X, 3910X, 3931X), Express 4K (3940X), Express 4K+ (3941X)

        • Roku Premiere (3920X, 4620X) and Premiere+ (3921X, 4630X)

        • Roku 2 (4210X), Roku 3 (4200X, 4230X) and Roku 4 (4400X)

    • Roku Streaming Sticks:

        • Roku Streaming Stick (3600X, 3800X), Streaming Stick+ (3810X), Streaming Stick 4K (3820X) and Streaming Stick 4K+ (3821X)

    • Roku Soundbar: 9100X

    • Roku Streambar: 9102X

Devices must be on minimum firmware version 8.1 b1 or higher. The Xfinity Stream channel will only appear in the Roku channel store for eligible devices. To give customers the best streaming experience, we stopped updating the Xfinity Stream app on 2017 Roku devices in October 2022.

I know this is a lot of information, but I hope it helps you make the best decision for your X1 service moving forward!
