Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there. As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list. An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line. Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window Press Enter to send it

First of all, which version are you using? It works fine on my iPad that has version 7.22.0.2787.
You might already know that Apple is releasing a new update soon (maybe today?)
Try and keep the app updated as well as your iPad.
