ROKU, HBO GO

Oh Lord , 2 more "Forum Heroes" with nothing better to do, that's why I don't spend a whole lot of time posting on them.... My reasoning is not flawed stop leading people in the wrong direction, HBO HBOGO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT  - SAME THING!!!!!! HBO CONTENT!!!!

I did not want to write a book on here but I'm forced to now - Comcast considers companies like ROKU that they DO NOT have $$$$$ agreements with as competitors - therefore they will not allow you access, why because if I could access networks like HBO (IN ANY FORMAT) or other networks why would I pay them a monthly fee for a box. I'm done here you guys are annoying!!!!

Again you are showing your ignorance of the issue. Since Comcast allows HBOGO to stream on other devices (like AppleTV for example), you argument doesn't hold water.  Also, the content is not the same.  HBOGO supplements HBO.

I under stand that Comcast is affraid of ROKU because they assume they are goind to miss out on a potential box rental. They over look the loss of a customers whole revenue over this minor fee.

They are also affraid of ROKU as it's well known as the cord-cutters best friend. But with cable subscription verification that HBOGO and other extended basic channels have been using, letting me validate my ROKU is a sure way to keep me paying.

I am sure ROKU would be happy to create an Xfinity custom channel for them, It would give them a leg up on some of there compitition and actually make customers happy.

This will either solve the Roku issue, or (and this I think is more likely) spread it to all those unfortunate TWC customers who will become Comcast customers...

Am sure Comcast will use the "we are really compeating with terestrial providers" and may get away with it. Maybe getting ride of their cable unit will pave the way for TWC/HBO to sell direct to no cable/sat users.

I fear you're probably right on the latter, but it surely going to pee off a lot of TWC customers!  If I were one of them, I'd already be writing letters to the FCC opposing the merger.  But if they don't rescend TWC users their Roku usage, they surely will have to grant it to their comcast customers.

To add a private channel on Roku - has to be done via their website.

The "merger" - based on past behaviour I think it would be safe to presume that once it's a done deal, the TWC customers are going to lose their HBOGO access. Comcast - if you are really listening, it would be awesome if you surprised all your loyal customers with adding HBOGO access. But not holding my breath - shareholders are more important than customers. This has been an issue for years and we are ignored - they have had plenty of time to act if they were going to. Once could say they did act - buying competition and changing pricing structures to put more to the bottomline and less value to customers (for more money). Sure would be nice if an end was put to these monopolies. The real sad thing is they keep telling us what great bandwidth we have but when we look at other countries (example - most of Europe), we have a tenth of what they have AND they pay less.

This is going to be a long slog through regulatory approvals...when they bought nbc/universal, it took a year to get approval. This will be at least as long, so don't expect any near term solutions.

Agree 100% - might be great for shareholders, but going to be bad for customers.  I'm writing an email to my Senators & Representative today to let them know what I think of this proposed merger - less competition & more control of our internet is bad for consumers.

Comcast does not really believe in a future of awesome I guess, unles it's only accessed exclusively on the X1 platform. Comcast subscribers pay the most for premium channels let us access that content how ever we like. Now that would be awesome. 

Yeah - they see Xbox1 as the new platform. Checked to see if we had updated DVR boxes available locally and found out that they are phasing all the current ones out starting this year and the new boxes will all be based on Xbox 1 platform and o/s.  They have nothing more current in stock as they wait for the new ones. Crude and double crude. *sigh*

Soo, those of us that knew the magic juice to access the unix o/s on the DVR's they provided will lose that on the updated boxes. Geez - bad enough I get the blue scream of death on the pc - now it will on the box too? Can't escape Microsoft!!!

The X1 platform is not the XBox1 -- X1 is a new(ish) Comcast cable box with more bells & whistles than the current Comcast DVR.

I had one and ended up dumping it - I bought a Tivo Roamio and ended up saving money over the X1 costs.

 This is an excellent reason to oppose Comcast's proposed purchase of Time Warner. There will be a public comment process as the deal is reviewed  by the Justice Department.  a handwritten note (e-mails are ignored) to one's Senators and Representatives in Congress also would not hurt. Great example of anti-competitive practice.

Yeah I am waiting for HBOGO to work as well on the Roku 3. I wouldnt mind if the new Roku SHO Anytime app be available through Comcast also. Apparently the HBOGO app works with Apple TV but not Roku which is wierd. Anyways in case you have not seen the other thread about HBOGO not working with Samsung smart TV's, it does now. HBOGO also works with Chromecast streamed to your TV with Comcast service.
