rewind and fast forward on DVR

I used to be able to rewind and fast forward (already recorded portions) on DVR while recording live TV on Streaming App. on Smart TV

Now when I try to do so it goes back to the beginning of the show.

Sources tell me this is a known Xfinity issue.

Despite Topic below this is not about the website.

Hello user_7mgy20 Does this recording behave the same way when accessing this from the X! cable box or other devices, or is this only happening on your Smart TV? What brand/make is the TV, and is this a newer or older device?

Why do all of you always ask about X1 when I only stream?  The TV is new enough that this has never happened before. Most important research shows this is a KNOWN Xfinity issue. Your tech team needs to fix this.

X1 playback and Xfinity Stream are connected within our systems, which is why we are asking for that clarification. If the issue is present with both, this would point to a larger issue for us to tackle. We'd love to assist further with personal account troubleshooting and reporting to our advanced teams as needed.

Please send a direct message by clicking the chat icon in the upper right corner of the page, clicking on the pen and paper icon, and then entering “Xfinity Support” in the “To” section. Please include your name and address, and we can get started anytime.

First, not going to start over re-explaining this. Second, since this is a known issue that you seem unaware of, troubleshooting one account seems useless. Just fix the entire streaming DVR.

user_7mgy20 I apologize, but there is not currently a known issue matching what you are describing. We do have a list of reported/known issues that is actively being addressed by our engineering team, and currently there are no DVR fast-forward or rewind issues. That is why we started the line of questioning and requested that you reach out in private. If other members are also having the same issue, we recommend that they reach out as well, so it can be a documented known issue if we are not able to resolve it for you. I look forward to working with you in private so we can better assist you.

I am having the same issue.  When I try to watch a recording that is still in the process of recording, for example a I start recording a football game at 7pm and then try to start watching it at 7:45 while it is still recording, it will not allow me to fast forward.  It starts playing the recording from 7pm, but every time I try to fast forward it restarts the program at 7pm.  This has been going on for over a month.  I've used your chat multiple times, spoke with multiple people, was promised call backs that never happened and the issue is still not resolved.  Yes, I've tried deleting and reloading the App...it is a problem across multiple devices, not just my Samsung TV.

I’ve direct messaged you and referenced my open ticket from weeks ago that has never been fixed.  The problem is not with my tv.  Same issue happens when using my computer to try to watch online.  I think it worked with Firefox but not Chrome or w Xfinity app on tv

@user_xvznzq you are replying at the wrong spot. You need to reply right under an xfinity response.

I posted 5 weeks ago about the same issue. There are many others like it. I think we deserve an honest, transparent explanation about what is being done to fix it. Please do not ask for direct messaging or to request a service appointment. If the issue is currently being investigated and xfinity is actively working on solutions, give us a timeline. I think this is a fair request.

Unable to Forward While Recording

I am unable to fast forward when watching a program that is currently recording. This feature was working prior to the update. I have a Samsung TV. The model # is QN65S9ODDFXA.

I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app, as well as, hard restarting the TV.

I see that others with different TV brands/models are having this issue as well.

XfinityAlfonso does know much because indeed the issue described is widespread. I just connected a new Samsung to the Xfinity Stream app and having the exact same problem plus you can’t fast forward or rewind and review progress. It just jumps ahead or backward while you have to guess where to stop it. Useless. An Ai search immediately generates a response of a known Xfinity issue. Known to all apparently but “Alfonso”! Doesn’t give you much hope that Xfinity is actually working to fix it.

I posted 5 weeks ago about the same issue. There are many others posts/comments about the same exact issue happening with other tv brands and laptops. The issue is independent of the device it is installed on. I think we deserve an honest, transparent explanation about what is being done to fix it. Please do not ask for direct messaging or to request a service appointment. If the issue is currently being investigated and xfinity is actively working on solutions, give us a timeline. Hi there @catoller1@comcast.net Thank you so much for reaching out.  I understand that you would prefer to not discuss your concern via direct message, however, we'd need to take a closer look at your account in order to confirm any details that we show at this time about your concern.

@XfinityDemetrise no, you dont. You do not need anyone's account info. The app is broken. Only the app needs fixed. Stop using a script and get your tech people to fix this widespread issue.

1) Delete recording.

2) Go back to Live, select the program and start recording again.

3) Go to Saved/Recordings, at the bottom of the list, you'll find Deleted Recordings the latest of which is the one you just deleted - select Recover.

4) You now have 2 partial recordings of your program (hopefully without much lost in between) - but the first part will now function as a completed program allowing you to RWD/FF as normal.

@sayheykid I will try that. But will the restored keep recording?

No. You have to start a new recording where the initial one left off.

52 Messages

@sayheykid then what's the point?  You cannot keep fast forwarding bit by bit to live. You have to go to the new recording which has the same problem.

same problem/issue here.  something was changed by comcast and now i can't watch any live recording without any playback control make the viewing start all over again at the beginning of the currently live recording.  i found the workaround of stopping the live recording, deleting that portion already recording, going back to the tv listings and starting to record again live in the middle of the show. then going into deleted recordings and restoring the first part and watching it as an already "finished" recording.  this works but is RIDICULOUS, tedious and time consuming to be able to record and watch a currently live tv show (like sports for example).  also, the lag in all of the finished recordings is quite pronounced.  skip ahead 30 seconds, or back 15 seconds is super slow and buggy now.  i get the 3-dots flashing in the middle of the screen often and it is maddening. i watch the time on the recording slider and it jumps around instead of being precise at +30 or -15 seconds.  again, this is maddening!!!!  fix whatever your programmers changed within the past month that affects streaming dvr programs, or I am leaving for YouTubeTV and all the other cord-cutting options.  Like another user in this thread, I've been with Comcast before they were Comcast. After many acquisitions, this company seems to be getting worse rather than better at quality and reliability.  Stop changing things just to change them.  Programmers feel the need to justify their existence and pay/benefits, but at the expense of the customers supposed to be served.  Fix the problems.  Stop chaning things and creating new problems.  PLEASE!!!!..... Just make your services work reliably and consistently.  That's what I pay for.  For now.
