Remove Peacock Premium from my XFinity Account

I should have remembered the saying you never get anything for free.  I fell for the XFinity advertisement claiming you can get Peacock for free with an XFinity account.  What they fail to tell you is that once they link your Peacock account to your XFinity Account - I feel like they hijacked my account.  In my opinion Peacock is useless to watch with the amount of ads they have so I intended to upgrade from the Peacock Premium to the Peacock Premium Plus.  What they fail to tell you is that once it is linked you have no way to cancel or upgrade the subscription.  It is all controlled by XFinity.  XFinity will repeatedly tell you that you have to cancel it through Peacock.  But when I log in to Peacock to manage the account it clearly tells me that it is billed and handled through XFinity and therefore any changes need to be made through them.  I was then told by XFinity that I would need to get a Flex X1 device (similar to roku or firestick) and this would enable me to cancel the subscription.  Wrong again.  Now I have an extra piece of equipment and no resolve.  If XFinity would do a bit of research they would find that several customers have had this same problem.  Today I was given a ticket number claiming this would be resolved by the end of the day by higher level tech geniuses I guess.  But it is now 6:20 p.m. and you guessed it - it is still not resolved.  I have checked every possible drop downs in account settings etc. on my television, internet, under XFinity and Peacock to no resolve.  I went to the XFinity store and had a very rude experience with a manager who merely dismissed me altogether claiming since Peacock was a 3rd party it needed resolved through them.  What they aren't understanding is the Peacock account says it needs to be resolved through XFinity since it was set up under them.  The only other solutions to-date I have been given is to sign up with Peacock with a 2nd e-mail so I have two Peacock Accounts?  How crazy is that.  The next solution is that I have to drop XFinity altogether.  Love to hear from an XFinity employee who really cares to resolve this.  I as the customer feel I should have an absolute right to request you unsubscribe me to Peacock.

This is not the feeling we want you to have, @user_zg4jvy. The Peacock subscription changes came with many questions, and we are here to help! It is so that if you receive Peacock Premium through NOW TV, Gigabit speed internet, or Xfinity Rewards, you cannot upgrade to Peacock Premium Plus through Xfinity at this time. I understand you're seeking to cancel the subscription, so you may resubscribe using another method so that you may upgrade. May I ask how did you sign up for Peacock before linking using Xfinity Rewards? The reason I ask is that if you sign up for Peacock through your Xfinity X1 or Xfinity Flex TV Box, you’ll be billed by Xfinity, and you can manage your Peacock subscription plan through your TV Box. This includes viewing, upgrading, downgrading, or canceling your subscription. If you signed up for Peacock directly with Peacock, you’ll be billed by Peacock and can use your existing credentials to log in on X1 or Flex. However, you’ll need to visit peacocktv.com to manage your subscription. Let's take a closer look at your account and work together toward a fix. Please send a direct chat message with your full name and complete service address to “Xfinity Support”? To do so, click on the chat icon located at the top right of this forum's page.

Here are the detailed steps to direct message us:

I have the same issues. Xfinity gets paid for connecting users to Peacock so they make it extremely difficult to cancel. They should be reported.

We are also having trouble cancelling Peacock. I should have known better than to try to use the "free xfinity upgrade" from xfinity to watch the NFL playoff game. I figured I would be get billed and the "free" was a lie, but I did not expect for it to be close to impossible to cancel. I spent a half hour this morning trying to cancel through my account online. My husband also tried to cancel through our TV as well as spoke to a representative about cancelling. 1) I feel this whole process was a scam to force people into Peacock when they really don't want it 2) I feel the cancellation process is difficult on purpose to try to trap us into more fees. Every year I say I need to cancel my entire xfinity home services. This scam is adding fuel to the fire to support the desire to end my accounts. Why should I pay over $200 a month to a company that seems to trick their customers into more payments?

So, I followed the instructions posted in the response from the Official Employee XFinity ThomasA, just to be let down yet again.  I followed his advice about a direct chat message and the response I received was:

They posted how they would hate to see you go because of the offer that was part of the Gigabit internet service.  They then posted their views on how Peacock is great because it has a ton of reality shows they watch.  (Yeah, but I bet they get to watch without ads!).  Then they want on to state their final result of how they could fix this.  I'm sure we are all waiting to here the fix.  The reply was, First, we can't remove this service as it's part of the internet plan you have.  If I really want the premium plus service, I would have to down grade my service.  Strange how I have had the Gigabit service for quite some time, but just recently added the Peacock premium with no warning that once I did I would not be able to make any changes and now I am left with leave XFinity all together or down grade my XFinity services.  They then went on to remind me how fortunate I am that the Peacock Premium is 100% free.  The only other suggestion is that I create a secondary e-mail and then sign up with Peacock Premium Plus directly.  However, this then gives me two separate Peacock accounts which I could later be responsible for both.  So XFinity ThomasA any other bright ideas.  I'd really love to hear from their Corporate Office - is this really what XFinity believes is the right way to treat their customers?

But the direct message didn't work - am I suppose to just keep trying again to see if I reach a new person that can help.  If you read above you would see I already received their message and they couldn't help me.  You seem to be just trying to make it appear here that you are helping, but the direct message did nothing.

X-Finity still refuses to cancel my Peacock Premium plan so that I can then renew my plan direct with Peacock so I can get the Peacock Premium Plus without ads.  Once you are linked with the Peacock plan X-Finity advertises as free you lose control of your Peacock account.  X-Finity is now listed as the biller on my Peacock account so it is like I don’t even own the account.  You are not able to cancel it or upgrade it.

  • But if I can’t cancel it – then what happens when this is no longer covered under X-Finity? Then do I get locked into paying for this service whether I want it or not.
  • X-Finity officials have repeatedly advised me to simply create a second e-mail address that I can then sign up for a second Peacock account so I can get the ad-free plan. Not only would this be confusing to keep track of a second e-mail, but my fear is I could become liable for paying under both accounts since I still can’t cancel my X-Finity account. I personally feel it should be illegal for X-Finity to control this account.
  • Another solution one X-Finity official advised – is that if I went down to the X-Finity store and got a new piece of equipment X1 Flex that I would then be able to control my Peacock account through there. Well now I have a piece of equipment that still shows I have no control over cancelling or upgrading Peacock. So that was another option that does not work.
  • Third piece of advice from X-Finity official – Since Peacock comes with my Gigabit internet service the only way to cancel the subscription would be to downgrade to a lesser speed where Peacock is not included. Really – I have to downgrade my service. It’s my understanding my the X-Finity store is that I can’t make any changes to my plan or I will lose any discount package I have now.  So not only will I have a lower service, but could potentially pay more.  Oh yeah – but I can finally get to cancel Peacock.
  • The only other option that has been offered – as I have noticed with others posts – X-Finity officials post stating they will help you, but to go to their messaging link. However, no solution is provided, but it might give the appearance that they may have resolved this. If my situation is resolved I will post that here otherwise it is to be assumed that no resolution has been found.
  • I have seen other promotional offers by X-Finity - however, I will be fearful to ever link my account again!
