Parental controls

I am using the xfinity stream app on a Samsung tv. At some point someone in the family must have set a parental control pin, but none of us know what it is. We want to change or remove the pin because we are unable to watch recorded shows that have been filtered by the settings. It has been this way for months and I have spent hours trying to troubleshoot but cannot reset the PIN on the actual device (smart tv) because we don’t know the current pin. Resetting it through our account online doesn’t work (it doesn’t change the PIN on the smart tv). I understand each device that uses the stream app has its own PIN and settings, but there has to be a way to reset or override it when the PIN is forgotten — How can we fix this?

Thank you for reaching out! Since your Smart TV uses the Xfinity Stream App, you will need to reset the Parental Controls PIN in the Xfinity Stream portal.  https://www.xfinity.com/stream/

When I do that from my laptop or phone and reset, it doesn’t seem to impact the PIN on my Samsung tv (in fact it says that the PIN is only for that single device when I log in to the stream app from a device). Does this mean I need to log on to the stream portal from the internet browser on my tv to make this work? And then the app should be reset?  I spent hours on the phone with xfinity support and they were unable to resolve.

Actually, I tried accessing the xfinity portal from the browser on the Samsung tv and it says the browser needs to be updated to start streaming, which isn’t an option on the tv.  So there does not seem to be a way to change the parental control PIN or to reset it if you are using the xfinity stream app on a Samsung smart tv, which seems like it can’t be the case. ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app on the tv after trying to reset the PIN through the portal. That doesnt work either — as soon as I login with my xfinity ID Im back at square one.

Should have said there doesn’t seem to be a way to do it if you’ve forgotten the PIN and are trying to reset it.
