fire stick will not play recorded programs; programs loads, plays for 5 seconds then starts to buffer for 5 seconds & repeat

My fire stick will not play recorded programs.  I can record with the fire stick and the recordings are listed.  When you select a recording and try to watch it, it takes a long time to load.  It starts to play, (has a pause indicator on screen), plays for about 5 seconds then starts to buffer for about 5seconds.  When it starts to play again, the pause indicator is gone, but it starts to buffer again. The same thing continues to happen over and over.
