Fire Stick Freezes

My issue with my Amazon Fire Stick has been addressed before in another post.  However there was no definitive solution or means to an end and the string was 'closed', the last post being at least 5 months ago.  Here it is summed up with information from Xfinity's 'employee' recommendations and customer feedback of the ineffectiveness of the fix recommendations (uninstalling, reinstalling Xfinity App).  On certain Xfinity channels the picture and audio freezes.  It will unfreeze on its own after so many seconds (20?).  One way to get unstuck is to double punch the play/pause button on the Fire Stick remote.  One member mentioned this as the fastest way of dealing with the annoyance.  My freezing has a pattern: it freezes after going to commercial and will freeze a few more times during the ads and then a couple more times after returning to the program being watched, and will seem to be okay after that 2 or 3 freezes into the program until the next volley of ads start.  I either have to have the remote in hand, my finger on the right [small] button, or just settle for missing parts of what I'm watching.  The other fix, I read, is to buy a 'Roku'.  As another member mentioned, as big as a conglomerate Comcast/Xfinity is, one would think they would be on top with technology and having a robust app that has been well developed and is updated as necessary.  Instead we are reduced to being a test audience for their "Beta" app, beta meaning it is still in testing mode.  An app that, in the world of todays apps, it would be very low on the list of effective and popular used apps.  As one customer support told me during one of my calls, "It is the longest Beta App he's ever seen".  I wonder how much longer before it is no longer referred to as beta?

So I have a 2017 Samsung Smart TV and was using the Xfinity Stream App. However, I was informed that the app would no longer work on my TV but was told I could use Roku or A Firestick. I shelled out the $50 for a Firestick 4k Max. Every other app works just fine. I have gig speed internet. Yet, the Xfinity app constantly freezes. Now I find out this is a longtime, ongoing issue that Comcast is aware of but has not fixed. So, I wasted $50 because I did what I was told even though their app doesn’t work. It’s fraudulent. I shouldn’t have even had to but the firestick since I have a relatively new Smart TV. Comcast [Edited: "Language"].

@user_c41c24 I feel your pain. I just bought a new Sony because one day the app froze and my television never recovered. The Sony won’t allow the app for obvious reasons, I believe. I have recently decided to move on and canceled my Xfinity cable. There are a lot of other streaming options that offer the primary channels. Maybe Xfinity will fix the issue if they see their customers dropping off.

I have the same issue on multiple channels with all 6 of my fire tv sticks when trying to watch Xfinity Stream Beta app.  I have been comparing Hulu+ options to my Xfinity package and it's very close to becoming a worthwhile switch.

I have the same issue. Once commercials start, the video freezes. I've restarted the fire stick, uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I bought the latest faster 4k fire stick for $50. Issue still persists. The issue is with the app. Comcast could care less. They want me to rent another box and refuse to address the issue with the app.

My FireTV Stick freezes on the Xfinity Stream app when I go through the TV To Go channel listing. It usually makes it about half way down the listing and then the app freezes. In about 20 seconds later the app restarts with the same problem. I have cleared the cache, etc, and even uninstalled and re-installed the app. While it sometimes fixes the problem for a few days, eventually the problem returns. Apparently, based on the posts here the issue of the app freezing has been happening for months. Perhaps there was a FireTV update which now requires Xfinity to update their app so it doesn't freeze. It seems that Comcast/Xfinity either doesn't care about customer satisfaction, or it lacks the technical skill to make their app work properly. So disappointed with Comcast / Xfinity has not fixed this problem with so many customers complaining.

Why hasn't Comcast / Xfinity even bothered to respond with possible solutions to the freezing problem on FireTV Sticks and built in FireTV sets on this board? It seems that Xfinity is relying on us, the customers, to brain-storm a solution for what is looking to be a programming issue with their Xfinity Streaming app.

Knock, Knock. Anybody home at Comcast / Xfinity?

WAKE UP COMCAST / XFINITY and fix the programming problem within your FireTV Xfinity streaming app!!!!!

I gave up on Comcast… I just use other TV apps, like … tubi TV, Pluto TV, Apple TV, YouTube TV,   Roku Channel on my FireStick, as well as some of the news apps like CNN, CBS, NBC and ABC which all work fine, but freeze on Comcast/xfinity streaming beta…????

comcast needs some software people to build and maintain their apps… or just buy someone else’s app.

Well my firestick still freezes on certain channels so I got another modem and of course freeze/pause.  Instead of chatting or calling xfinity I just switched to tv go channels but only switching back to watch certain channels that were not on the to go channels, so last night I wanted to watch Antenna TV and poof gone, so I chatted with customer service and she said that because of the recent roll out (updates) certain will be unsupported and that I would have to get the X1 box. I informed that I wasn't getting a box that's an added cost, she said she understood (eye roll). It seems to me that they want us to get their x1 boxes which I won't do so I will be cutting the channels out and going back to sling tv where my channels wont disappear when it's updated.

I already addressed this issue with someone when I talked to them. I changed my plan back to what I had before and I switched back to sling tv

Comcast’s xfinity streaming app is just there to frustrate people enough to go back to their rental of their own devices which costs money.  They don’t want to fix a Free Streaming app.

So, use another free streaming app, most of them now have a channel guide,  and enjoy the streaming live TV… on free apps.

I’m not sure there is anything Comcast will ever do to fix the xfinity streaming Tv app… so why do we use this expensive service?

Nor is it going to stop. Xfinity has not done anything to improve their app because they want people to rent their equipment. Me and many other’s communicating on this app have decided to leave Xfinity. Honestly, that is the only way they will decide to make a change. When they realize that they only have hotel contracts left, perhaps they will fix their app and try to regain their customers. I went with Hulu but I have heard others say they were going to Sling or YouTube. I am not sure if Riki has live television but at least there are some other options rather than paying for a service that doesn’t work. Oh, an Xfinity will give their streaming box to internet only customers. That right there speaks volumes about their refusal to fix their app for paying cable subscribers. If you pay for cable they charge you for their streaming box even though that is the only way their app will work. I guess the high monthly charge for cable just isn’t enough and they would rather have no subscribers than to include their equipment that would make the cable work.

This is a product issue I’m sure they are aware of, and likely (hopefully) prioritized. Things take time to fix. Unfortunately we just have to wait. Fortunately they labeled it as a beta, so you know what you’re in for

Absolutely unwatchable. Continual freezing on all of my 4 Firesticks when using the Xfinity app. Does not happen on any other app doing live streaming. Getting worse and worse. Used to occasionally, and then only during commercials. Now happening at the end of practically every commercial and has started during program playback. Xfinity has known about this for well over a year. As soon as I can cancel my account, I will be doing so.

I think it is working better now. Xfinity released a new app version in the last few days. New icon.

@smithysmithsmith I've noticed this a few days ago. I wish they would've fixed it months ago...but I'm glad it's fixed.

This problem with the Firestick freezing up seems to be on some Firestick devices and not all and I don't know what to make of it.  I set up my brother's and I 4K Firestick and we both live in the same city on different sides of town and I know that shouldn't have anything to do with it. My brother's 4K Firestick works great when using the Xfinity Streaming app. But, when I installed it on to my 4K Firestick I can't even get the pointer to move using the navigation buttons. I deleted the Xfinity app and reinstalled it and I still get the same results, I also unplugged the 4K Firestick to do a hard reset and I am getting the same results as before.  What now?
