DVR Space

We see fewer recorded shows on the stream apps than on our in home dvr.  How can you tell if a recorded show is on the home dvr hard drive or cloud dvr?  We have an XG1v4 dvr that should have 150 hrs of record space.  We also pay the extra $10 for premium DVR service which should give an addition cloud dvr space of 150 hrs above the 150 that we already had.  We are currently showing 379 recorded shows at 46% full on all set top boxes in our home so we have plenty of space left.  We see all recorded shows on our in home dvr and the wireless set top boxes but not on our streaming devices (IPAD or laptop).  How can you make a show that is currently not visible on a streaming device available?  Obviously, x1 cloud storage does not work like cloud storage on a computer where you can see what is in computer memory and/or cloud memory and move them back and forth or make them available on both the device and the cloud storeage.  The available Comcast documentation for x1 dvr storage is not clear at all.  I think that when you have a lower amount of storage (less than the dvr box) that shows are recorded/available both in home and on streaming devices.  But when you get to the limit of the dvr box hard drive shows are no longer available on both the home dvr and streaming??  Can someone explain how this works and how x1 decides where shows are stored and when available on streaming?

You have some excellent questions. Depending on your area will choose how the DVR and stream react to each other, one of 2 things may happen. Your DVR and the Stream cloud DVR will either mirror each other. The other option if they don't mirror each other than the cloud DVR will store the last 20 hours of recordings.

OK, the in house dvr and cloud dvr partially mirror each other.  This is not a big problem but occasionally we will want to watch a show on a streaming device that is recorded but does not show on the streaming app. The last few shows recorded are showing up on the cloud dvr on the streaming devices.  So your response partially answers my question.

For you to be able to watch the recorded content it would have to appear in the stream app. The following goes over a lot of info about this option which can be viewed by visiting https://comca.st/39ncZts;

@XfinityDanielC  Your link did not work but that is OK - I think I found the information about the streaming app guide use.  Everything works  but I am still confused why all recorded shows are not mirrored on the x1 dvr and on the streaming app.  I assume all recordings that are visible on the streaming app are on the cloud dvr or you would not see them.  The ones that are visible on the x1 dvr but not on the could must only be on the dvr hard drive.  Back to one of my original questions - is there any way to move a recording visible on the x1 dvr to the cloud so it can be seen on the streaming apps?  The cloud drives used on computers allow you to see which files are on the hard drive of the computer and which files are on the cloud drive.  You can also "sync" files or mark the as available on the computer if you do not have internet access.  In other words, the cloud drive is just another drive on the computer only accessible with internet access but you see it as a separate drive and can move files from the computer hard drive to the cloud drive or vice versa.  Maybe only the system programmers really know how all this works.  Having used/programmed computers for many years I am curious and wanted more control over our recorded programs.  Not a big deal...  I appreciate your responses and help.

When a recording initially records it should record to the cloud as well. In some situations it records locally on the DVR only and will not allow the system to sync after and add it to the cloud. I would be happy to look into this more for us to see if there is an issue with the way the program is recording to the DVR/cloud. Have you seen the cloud recording missing on specific shows or networks?

It is more complicated than that.  About 10 days ago many of our recorded shows disappeared on the wireless set top boxes but most were still on the dvr listing of recordings.  I fixed that by replacing the cable that goes to the x1 dvr.  Immediately, all recordings synced to the wireless set top boxes but we cannot see all of them on our streaming apps.  When we record new shows we do see them on the streaming apps.  So, I guess the "problem" with the cable and not syncing to the set top wireless boxes and streaming app caused all of this.  You have answered my question about not being able to sync manually and this is not really a problem - more curiosity on my part....  Thank you.

You're welcome. I wish I had a solution for you with those missing recordings. You can try a sync DVR in the settings of the DVR, but if those programs are not on the cloud already, but will not help.

I was hoping that I would be able to tell you how to check for the cloud indicator, but I think they removed that icon. It's been a while since I have paid attention to that I guess I never noticed the update. If you would like I can poke around some more for it and take a look at the backend for the recordings. Send me you name and service address by direct message if you want me to look more into it.

It's OK.  All is working except for some recorded programs not showing on the stream app on our tablets and laptop.  I think it is better to adhere to the "if it works, don't fix it" principle......

Thanks.
