disable emergency notifications weather and amber alerts won't let me watch live tv

Whenever we have severe weather we get a purple screen playing a noise and saying emergency and the same for amber alerts, but the amber alerts are at least short even though they wake up our baby.  Aside from cutting in on shows, these alerts are actually dangerous as we want and need to watch our local weather and the streaming app will only show the emergency notification screen.  I can turn these off on my set top boxes but cannot find out how to disable or turn off these notifications on our TVs using the streaming app.  We need to be able to see our local weather during severe storms.  How do I disable this well intentioned but very dangerous feature on the Xfinity Stream app on Google and ROKU TVs? TIA

user_r7foz4 Good morning! We appreciate you taking the time to reach out to our Xfinity Forums for assistance with your emergency notifications. Xfinity doesn't issue the emergency alerts. We just pas them through to your devices, and they cannot be opted out. I wish I had better news, as they can be quite alarming when it comes to trying to sleep; especially with babies. Please let us know if there are any other questions we can answer for you.

but why are they on the live streaming station more than they are on the actual cable version of the station? It is supposed to be the same thing, but my tv upstairs is still showing weather without interruptions, while the tv in the tornado shelter room (with the live streaming version of the local station) has the alerts busting in every 2 minutes.

user_ss2e1a, I can see how having it pop up more on other channels/stations can be a headache. They are automatically sent out, and we don't control where they are displayed. That said, we can certainly take in your feedback.

The problem is, they break in over the weather programming too, so many times we can't get accurate updates of radar and such bc of all the warning screens popping up and breaking in. One of the times, there was a tornado warning and the break-in happened, ok fine, but then it returned to the regular weather that was saying "tornado on the ground" in MY town, but then another repeat of the tornado warning blue screen break in happened so I could not get info on WHERE the tornado ON THE GROUND NEAR ME was! This is dangerous!

Hello, @user_8u2cwp thank you for taking time to leave feedback. We're always looking for ways to improve, and completely understand the concern wanting to ensure you're able to view programing during weather emergencies to be kept up-to-date.

I see one of my great coworkers Kassie had provided a great article that has more information of why the notifications are there, and that per local State and national emergency guidelines these can't be disabled: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/emergency-alert-system

I have passed along feedback to our corporate leadership team, if this is something that can be changed in the future, that document would be updated and a good place to reference.

The best way to take care of it is to cancel xfinity and sign up to a different provider.  I was able to turn it off on YouTube TV.

@user_ss2e1a yes we do - there are several other streaming services that have local live tv/news.

Could we possibly have a ‘I’ve seen it, thanks’ option?  We get the same notice over and over - for a thunderstorm.  I understand not being able to turn it off, okay, but we’ve got it now, can we return to the programming?
