Couple questions b4 reattaching the cord...
Hi,
we haven't had cable TV for quite a while, just HSI.
Hulu is no longer a gem - prices going up, too many problems. Hulu's poor DVR functionality is really driving us away.
It would appear we can save some money by purchasing TV from Xfinity, again. Have come full circle.
My question:
We have three TV's. If we add Xfinfity TV to our plan with only one set top box it appears we can use the Roku devices on the remaining two TV's. According to this topic dated 4/2/2019 "the Xfinity Stream app is still in beta mode & does not include the full set of features & functionality included in the Xfinity Stream app for mobile devices & web portal."
On Roku - does the Xfinfity Stream app work like a set top box for DVR & LiveTV?
Does it work as well as Hulu & YoutubeTV?
Thank you

HI, the good news is you can test it for up to 30 days to see if you like it (money back guarantee). there are packages that include your first set top box (or $10 credit toward price of DVR as the first/only set top box) as well as including HD technology. X1 creates two copies of 'new' recordings at the same time, one in the local DVR on a hard drive the other in a cloud DVR. The storage is very different in home/cloud in that the home DVR has a lot more room for recordings while the cloud has only the last 60 hours recorded (older removed as space needed). I mention all that to be sure you understand the Roku devices see only the limited cloud DVR recorded programs while the home DVR may have many more older recordings. The set top boxes allow surround sound (and more for the 4k/UHD DVR while the roku will see only stereo 2.0. The difference in features is primarily that no pay per view can be ordered on the Roku while in beta (you can use other devices like a desktop/laptop PC to order). The roku does not show thumbnail images duirng fast forward, but just a position time display.

if you have (currently) one of the 2 gateways from Comcast, there are wireless set top boxes (xi5 in all markets HD, xi6 in some markets 4k/UHD). These specific companion set top boxes communicated via the MoCA protocol using the gateway to communicated to the local DVR. yes you control recordings in the cloud DVR app.

Hey, thanks.
Can I pick your brain a bit more?
I doubt the set top boxes or DVR are wireless? I don't mean thru the router. The TV's have changed location & the coax comig out of the wall is no longer close to the TV.
Do the set top boxes from Xfinity connect to the DVR local storage?
Does the Xfinity cloud DVR space behave like the local DVR storage? In other words Hulu will not allow us to FF thru commercials even while watching a show in the cloud DVR. Feels like defeating the purpose of having DVR.
thank you for your assistance 🐵

Sorry for delayed response, for some reason I could not get logged in, redirect...
That's great info. We do indeed own our own equipment so doubt we'll be leasing either one of those gateways.
One set top box & the streaming app along with the cloud sounds promising. More than adequate for our purposes I imagine.
thank you again.
