To help make sure we have a clear understanding the audio stops working after about 5 seconds while watching live TV or programs played back on the DVR? Does it seem to be on specific channels or at specific times of the day? Are you using a sound bar or other external audio device aside from the TV speakers? If you have other TV's in the home do they have the same issue?
