I bought a $30 Roku Express and hooked it up. Casting works now.

I am having the same problem now. Casting from the stream app to smart TV does not work from my Android or iPhone. The screen hangs on the ready to cast screen as others have noted. I also tried casting from a browser on a Windows laptop and a Macbook and still have the same issue. I have tried resetting the TV to factory settings, uninstalling the stream app and reinstalling, restarting router, etc. Nothing has resolved the issue. I should mention that at times when I am trying use the stream app, it will not let me watch channels and it says I need to connect to my home wifi network. But I am connected to my home wifi network! Then after closing the app and restarting, it then will recognize that I am indeed on my home network.

I resolved this issue by first selecting cast before playing the video. It worked for me i don't know it is acceptable solution for now.
1. Open the stream app.
2. Select Cast icon and wait for "Ready to cast"
3. Now select the video.
It worked for me

Why is this taking so long to resolve. Clearly a lot of customers are using chromecast to watch xfinity. Unacceptable.

I'm having the same issue as everyone here. I have been streaming using xfinity stream and Chromecast for a few years, with no issues, then all of a sudden it stopped working 2 weeks ago. I have a DVR Box downstairs and stream in the bedrooms, Xfinity is probably trying to force me to rent boxes again. I refuse, will switch providers if not fixed soon.

Same problem as everyone else. New chromecast worked fine for a couple of days, then stopped working. Says "media not selected" and "ready to stream." Hope Xfinity braniacs figure out a fix.

I tried an a different chromecast dongle and it worked. So this may be specific to only certain chromecast models.

Get this fixed. We are all tired of this not working. You should also let you chat and tech people know this is an issue so they can tell people who are looking for assistance

I would like to note that when Comcast sold me on the TV package, they specifically said that I did not need a cable box because I could simply use the Stream app to cast whatever I wanted to watch onto my smart TV. This worked fine for the last two years but suddenly, I cannot watch the TV service that I pay for on my actual TV. That is frustrating! I should also note that YouTube TV, Amazon Prime video, Hulu and Fubo have no issues whatsoever in casting to my smart TV. If I can't get the Stream app to cast to my TV, then I will not have any other choice than to switch providers.

Hey Xfinity, I hope you are reading this because here's a little nugget that can help your tech engineers troubleshoot the issue. I dug out my old Chromecast (3rd gen) dongle and plugged it into the back of my really expensive smart TV, plugged the dongle into the wall to power it up and now I can cast from the Stream app to my TV. The built in cast on my TV still does not work and my Stream app is still having occasional issues with not recognizing that I am on my home network (which I am) and I have to restart the app. Streaming to a Chromecast dongle via HDMI or a Roku dongle is certainly NOT THE SOLUTION your customers are looking for.
