Based on suggestions from another user on this forum I downloaded apps from ESPN, Bally sports and etc.  By going directly to these apps I have been able to cast fine.  You need to link to Xfinity account.  Time consuming to find every app you may want, but at least I will be able to get some sports and other programs until Xfinity gets this problem fixed.

However, this will not work for the CBS app.  It seems to directly rely on the Netflix app unlike the other apps

Just got off the phone with a “know it all” rep who was extremely disrespectful telling me that because I have a Vizio tv It’s not supported by the app. However I have been streaming on only Vizio tvs for 2 years with no issues until the 12th of October. She insisted she’s worked there for 12 years and knows more than I do about my own tv. Saying there’s nothing I can do. I never would be spending $130 a month for cable and told I didn’t need a box if it wasn’t compatible with a vizio.

@user_1795bf Both of our TVs we have been casting to for 2 plus years are Vizios. They were the last smart device in my house to stop working with the xfinity app. We couldn't cast to our google home long before our Vizios. So you are absolutely correct, if they aren't compatible that is a brand new thing. Casting is all I do, we only have one box. I also have no more reason to keep xfinity cable services if I can no longer cast.

Check settings in Chromecast app. I did and it for some reason was not granted permission for media and files. I granted permission and it works perfectly again!

I have an Android, Pixel 4 phone. But Apple I Believe is the same to connect to Chromecast. it seems that you need to go to Google Home and download that app. Then you add your Chromecast to that. I did that originally when I had my Chromecast. Once the Chromecast is added on your Google Home app, you can go in and change the settings to allow media and files.

I just spoke to an Xfinity rep who told me this is a known problem with the Xfinity Stream app and they are working on a fix, but they cannot give an eta.  In the meantime, I just downloaded a bunch of streaming apps like HBO Max, Showtime anytime, etc. and after linking to my Xfinity account, I can watch those on my phone and successfully cast to my TV.  This is so frustrating and frankly unacceptable customer service.  Comcast will get a lot of bad press from this.

@user_c3a1f0 Not true. The CBS app doesn't rely on the Netflix app.

I found a way to stream now using a “xfinity stream beta”app. The Xfinity beta app does not use Chromecast, you are actually signed in to your xfinity account. This only works on a smart Samsung and LG tv to the best of my knowledge. Give it a try:

1. On your smart tv locate your App Store.

2. Look for Xfinity stream beta.

3. Click to install it.
4. follow instructions.

5. If it installs/downloads correctly to will see all of your xfinity stream channels.
Note: you don’t use your smart phone to browse through the xfinity channels, you will be using your tv remote. Try it, good luck!

It is now about two weeks since the first post regarding this issue.   I stream to a patio TV which I do not use daily.  I first noticed this issue a couple days ago.  One week ago it was working fine.   All other apps stream to my TV (Not a Vizio) perfectly fine to my Chromecast from PC and Apple devices.  The Xfinity stream does not.  Whether an Xfinity or Chromecast issue, the technical support response from Xfinity is very poor.   Frankly with the number of users who have voiced this concern, I would have thought Xfinity would have dedicated technical support to work with Chromecast to resolve the issue.  If needed, they can contact Chromecast support the same as any of us! It's time to stop playing placation games on this thread, acknowledge you have a problem and tell us when it will get fixed and give us frequent updates!!   In other words, customer service.....  If for no other reason than respect for the people paying your salaries.  I am angry because I care about where my dollars get spent. .  I live in a community with over 1,100 homes.  We have an Xfinity agreement for all home through our HOA.  In other words I can't just switch. I will be raising this issue very adamantly with my board.  I am quite a stickler for holding people accountable (including my board).  I think we are ripe for legal action regarding these type of HOA agreements.  .  This needs to get fixed.  AT&T already laid fiber in this 1,100 home community.  Probably no better than Xfinity, but definitely worth moving the $$ away from them.  Everyone reading needs to contact Xfinity and demand a refund for their service.  Additionally, each state has a different office handling cable regulations.  Know who it is and contact them.  In Florida it is Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services  and can be reached at https://www.fdacs.gov/Contact-Us.

I forgot to mention my above thread is a temporary fix until xfinity gets the chromecast fix. I might just keep using the beta regardless, maybe.

Spent the money to purchase NFL Redzone. Can’t stream it on my TV because of the same issue! No fix in sight.

My temporary workaround of using a 3rd gen Chromecast dongle connected to my TV has been working for a few days now. You could always try purchasing a 3rd gen dongle and returning it if Xfinity is able to resolve this within the next 90 days. Staples has them on sale for $20.

Same here.  We used to cast to our patio TV but the Xfinity Stream is doing the same thing.  Says it's casting but the TV says "Xfinity Stream Ready to cast" and nothing happens.

Other apps cast just fine, such as YouTube.  Not Xfinity.

This is not just an issue with the app installed on Smart TVs. Some of us experiencing the same problem are casting to non Smart TVs using a chromecast device and casting from our phone/computer/tablet etc. It had worked for years using these same devices and now doesn't. I went out and bought a new chromecast thinking it was not able to update etc. even though it was working fine with Netflix and all my other casting apps except Xfinity streaming. I plugged it in and set it up and it worked for 2 weeks with Xfinity but stopped working yesterday! Same exact issue as before. Says it ready to cast on the TV but on the device that it is supposed to be streaming from it says no media selected. I tried doing a factory reset of the brand new chromecast thinking maybe it was an update issue, but still get the same error.

It's time for Comcast to actually care about this issue and fix it!!

with each passing day (days not hours! this becomes more untenable.  Although I don't look forward to having to change, I feel there is little choice left.  A problem such as this should have been solved a long time ago.  My employer would never have put up with such a situation.  If the so-called engineers at Xfinity can't solve this, a new crew needs to be found.
