Xfinity Stream App on Sony Tv

I am not able to see the Xfinity Stream app available to download.  Is there a reason for it not being available on my Sony Android TV?

Hello there @user_b0a1e4 thank you so much for reaching out with your question about using our Xfinity Stream app on your Sony Android TV on our community forums. If you do not see the Xfinity Stream app or Xfinity Stream app Beta available on your devices options to download your model may not be supported. This is a great page to help with what devices are currently supported and what your device needs to be able to use the Xfinity Stream app successfully! Xfinity / comcast is a large and greedy corporation.  You can use the xfinity android app on any small screen, but they block it from android on large screens -- unless you pay an extra monthly fee for the unneeded box.  They also block screen casting it over.  Pay extra.

If you follow the above link, it will work on some LG TV's and roku's.  Otherwise?  Pay extra.

You can install the Penguin TV browser and manually install the xfinity APK.  You can then skirt around and watch android app TV on your android TV.  You will have to manually update the app every couple of months.

If having to pay extra to watch TV based on screen size bothers you, remember that when you vote.  The prior FCC chair was a telecom lawyer who maximized profits for the telecoms / ended net neutrality.  The new FCC chair is more consumer related, to the point that Telecoms are trying to stop them.  Vote for pro-consumer, anti-telecom monopoly candidates.

I made an error:  Install the Puffin TV browser on your android TV.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cloudmosa.puffinTV

Then download and install the xfinity app apk manually.

https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffsb&q=xfinity+apk

If you need to install the apk, open it with a program such as FX file explorer, and it will install

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx&hl=en&gl=us

Install / Open the xfinity app and enjoy.

If you dig around with search terms, you'll see you're not alone and xfinity has no plans to give up the extra money by trying to force you to rent the box if you want to watch on a bigger screen than your phone or tablet.

I just purchase an A80J Sony tv. Is there is a reason the Xfinity stream app is important? Sony technical support explained how I can control my X1 DVR box or Xi6 wireless box (I have both) through my Sony remote and it looks as though that will solve the problem of having to use more than one remote. What other advantage is there to have the stream app, if I'm not interested in watching Xfinity content on a mobile device?

I haven't received the A80J TV yet, but if I'm able to use one remote, the Sony, for everything, what else do I need if I'm not worried about streaming Xfinity content on a mobile device?

I have a relatively new Sony smart tv(purchased last December). I am unable to find and or install the Xfinity streaming beta app. Why is this happening?

To be completely honest, this whole experience makes me consider switching from Xfinity to AT&T. I have both options in my neighborhood, both Comcast and AT&T put fiber cable in the street. If I switch to AT&T, I can watch cable TV in Ultra HD where available, without needing a ginormous cable box and having to pay to rent one, for each and every TV in my house. AT&T Streaming app is supported on SonyTV. Xfinity blocks their app on SonyTV so you have to rent the box I have learned this week.

I can watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, etc through their apps with no set top box and get crystal clear Ultra HD already.

Xfinity, I can only guess you want the revenue from the set top boxes. It's like watching Blockbuster decide to stay in VHS video rentals though. You're really going to block your own streaming app from my TV, and expect me to remain as a customer when I have other options?

@user_e9e98f

I ordered this modem for $67.  Small, and paid for itself.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016PE1X5K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then see instructions to use Penguin browser on google based TV's to run Xfinity's app, and you can watch TV with no set top box.
