Xfinity App on Apple TV 4K will not allow me to watch live sports while Apple TV is ethernet connected to Comcast [Edited]

I have a Cable modem connected to Comcast.  I have my Apple TV 4K connected via wired Ethernet to have better quality.  This setup works great for everything except the Xfinity app.  If I want to watch live sports it says the Apple TV has to be connected via WiFi. To get around this nonsense I use the xfinity app on my iPad to watch the sporting event and then screencast it to the Apple TV.  

How can this nonsense be avoided?  I’m on the Comcast network.  I just use my own router and access points - not the Xfinity combo router/access point.
