X1 Box/ROKU Not Syncing Favorite Channels?
This is driving me crazy. I upgraded to the X1 box, dumped a couple of dtr boxes and now use roku streaming+ sticks (3810R). I put the stream app on them. Also have a pc we move around, so use the xfinity website to stream from.
Hope comcast keeps an eye on this site. My old box for 18 years worked great, but it was time to re-up, so I got a decent deal on X1 tv/internet.
So on the x1 box, I set the favorite channels. They may or may not show up on one of the rokus/laptop....or part of the favs, or not all.
So I set favs on the roku, go back to the x1 box and all my previous set favs are gone! I go back to the roku box, and some favs are missing.
I can't get them all to keep the favs I want. I can get 1 maybe...later it may have 0 favorites! I do as instructions note...go to ALL channels and set favs from there. what a pain. lather, rinse, repeat....
Also comcast: why, if I set a channel like 104 for example, as a fav, does comcast also assign other same channels (like 1014, 1444, gotv and such) for that favorite? I ONLY wanted 104.....not all the derivatives of it....so I have to search around for the higher numbers and "unfavorite" them all....what a waste of time. Maybe a way to NOT have that happen?
It goes back and forth like that for the 2 rokus, the laptop and the x1 box. I can get it to work on 1, maybe on another but then they all fritz out. Sometimes they even fritz out without doing anything.
There appears to be no syncronizing between the 3 ways I can watch xfinity. Is there a specific process I should be saving the fav channels in? What am I missing or doing wrong? or is it really that bad? Thanks...

Hi @seidenj could you please provide some examples for:
1. favorite channels that are set from set top box but not showing up on Roku;
2. favorite channels that are set from set top box but not showing up on laptop;
3. favorite channels that are set from Roku, but not showing on set top box;
4. favorite channels that are set from laptop, but not showing on set top box.
Thank you

Hi, I'll do more testing as possible but here's a simple process and results.
On my office roku/stream i had no favorites (they were somehow erased). I proceed to "all channels" and set 105 (King5) and 106 (Kong) for my simple test.
I exit stream, then re-enter stream (to ensure updated).
Now 106 and 106 are favorites....but so are 1005 and 1016 (king5 and kong on 4 digit channels). I exit, restart stream...all 4 still there. I never asked for those higher number favs.
I proceed to "All Channels" again and remove 1005 and 1016 as favorites.
Exit stream, re-enter and all favorites are gone...it took out 105/106 also.
So this time, starting over, I add 713 (ID) as a new fav. exit, re-enter...now 713 and 1444 are my favs.
All this on the office roku.
I go to the X1 main box. Go to fav channels and ONLY 713 is noted as a fav. I previously had about 40 channels set to fav.
I proceed to "all channels" on the X1 box, and all my original favorites are stilled "starred" as if they are favorites!
That's just 1 example.
I believe part of the problem is automatically adding all those unwanted derivative channels that clutter favs if you keep them.
But there *should* be a process, for example, where you set all fav channels on th X1 box and they get picked up by the stream app.
Is there something like that? By my testing above, there obviously is *some* interface between the X1 and stream app.
I tried to keep my written steps separated so they are easy to follow. Hope this helps understand our issues....you should be able to duplicate it.
....so next I removed the 2 favs 713, 1444 from the office roku. Check the X1 box, and 713 was now removed, no favs. Icheck "all channels" and all my original channels are still "starred" as favs, but no channels display under "favs"! whew.....

Hi @seidenj, thank you for your quick reply. To answer your questions:
1."Now 105 and 106 are favorites....but so are 1005 and 1016 (king5 and kong on 4 digit channels). I exit, restart stream...all 4 still there. I never asked for those higher number favs. I proceed to "All Channels" again and remove 1005 and 1016 as favorites. Exit stream, re-enter and all favorites are gone...it took out 105/106 also." --
When a channel is selected/deselected as favorite, that action will be applied to all available watch options related to this channel (the SD/HD, inHome/TV Go), which explains why you have additional channels added or removed. However I will forward your feedback to the appropriate teams.
2. "So this time, starting over, I add 713 (ID) as a new fav. exit, re-enter...now 713 and 1444 are my favs. I go to the X1 main box. Go to fav channels and ONLY 713 is noted as a fav. I submitted a ticket for this issue, and will keep you updated for any development. Thank you

confirming the following works:
I set all my fav channels on the X1 box...all great on the X1 box, favs display properly and there are no derivative (4 digit or tvgo) channels.
I check on the xfinity web site stream and 2 roku's xfinity stream apps and all derivatives are showing with the favorites. The actual favorites I wanted are all there. AS long as I don't try to remove the unwanted favs (4 digit channel and tvgo), all stays OK on the x1 box, rokus and web!!
BUT now my stream app and web stream favs are full of unwanted channels....at least 40-50 of them. Some channels have multiple derivatives.
I'm done testing unless someone needs more testing done. Again, please fix! thanks....Jeff

More testing and have found the isue, I believe.
I ensured all favs are removed from all boxes, on the X1 box, unchecked all the channels in "all channels" that were checked as favs but not displaying in favs...so starting from scratch.
Checked each roku, and all ok, no favs.
Made 2 favs in X1 box: 111 (local network) and 674. Turn off, then on...checked that there are now 2 favs on the X1 box and yes, there was.
I checked on the stream app and FOUND the favs: 111 and 674,,,but ALSO the derivatives of 1011 and 1492 (which I never wanted).
SO, the root cause seems to stem from the stream app AUTOMATICALLY assigning those 4 digit channels or tvgo, that are unwanted by the user. If I delete those 1011 and 1492 derivatives from the FAVS guide on a stream app, then all 4 disappear if you exit and re-enter the stream app on the same roku.
I then check the X1 box, and sure enough, the 111 and 674 set as favs are gone - no more favs! I check "all channels" and those 2 are still set as favs, I unset them...to start from scratch.
So, the process should be to set your favs from the X1 box. Then all rokus (and I'll check the web stream but assume it's same) will have those favs.
BUT all those rokus will have ALL the favs dirivatives, too...which creates a huge list of unneeded, unwanted channels.
If one deletes the dirivatives, the on the X1 box, the basic stations will also be removed!
The stream app needs to STOP automatically adding derivative channels (e.g. I set 106, I don't want 1016 and the tvgo channel also) to the favs a user sets up.
Then problem won't occur if using the X1 box as the main unit to set favs...it would all work fine.
PLEASE FIX THIS, it should not be difficult to stop adding channels to favs that the user didn't set.
thanks - Jeff

thank you for confirming @seidenj. I have forwarded your request to the teams.
Besides the unwanted favorite channels, is there still an issue with your X1 box favorite channels disappearing from "Favorites" (but still starred)?

"When a channel is selected/deselected as favorite, that action will be applied to all available watch options related to this channel (the SD/HD, inHome/TV Go)"
Yes, I see that but that's a very bad approach for customer usability. The idea of favorites is to have a *small* subset of channels....when automatically adding all watch options, it defeats the purpose. IF I really wanted all the channels, I can individually add them
But the overriding issue is when "unselecting" them as favs, it also kills the wanted channels. Just decouple the ganging of channels, please.
Otherwise, all works at this time but I have NOT tried changing or adding a fav (putting aside the ganging channels issue) from other than the X1 box at this time. I am exhaused playing with favorites now and if there are still issues, I don't want to go through having to start from scratch now...in a short time I will test by adding and/or removing favorites from a roku and online...then I'll update again.

Similar issue for me. Multiple Roku devices and web browser. I finally removed all favorites and started over.
When I select a favorite channel it auto adds all derivatives of the channel. So for example I have ESPNHD selected three times. 173, 623, 1205.
I have no idea why I need the same channel marked 3 times. The streaming app guide is barely usable compared to any other streaming TV service.
