Watching Xfinity channels via Roku stick when traveling
If I activate Xfinity on my Roku stick when I am at home, connected to my Xfinity internet, can I take my Roku stick with me out of town & still access live TV when I am connected to whatever internet service is available to me at the time? For instance, if I am staying in a hotel & connect my Roku via their internet, will I still be able to stream my Xfinity channels & recordings as if I was connected at home?

hi, I moved your post from streaming website area of the forum to the app area of the forum. the Xfinity stream beta app currently will work only on your own home wifi. you can use a dsek/laptop and chromecast or connect the PC via HDMI to a TV when travelling using the TV as a 2nd monitor.

I subscribe to Comcast TV and Internet service, but use a Linksys wifi router connected to a "bring-your-own" modem. Will I be able to use the Roku stick to add another TV using the stream app?

Thanks for the reply, Rustyben! It's good to know that I can add TV's and watch my Comcast content using Roku even though I have non-Comcast modem and router. So this should mean that I could watch the same content while away from home, with a different wifi network, right? If not, why not? How does the Roku know that it's at "home"?

the roku use is limited for the xfinity stream TV channel to in-home use only. when away from the home, only a PC can be connected to a TV via HDMI or chromecast dongle, and is limited to TVgo channels and on-demand and completed recordings on the cloud DVR.

Thanks again, Rustyben. Let me try asking this in other ways:
- With respect to the Roku stick, what constitutes "home" in your previous reply? What exactly is it that tells the stick that it is away from "home"?
- The website says "The Xfinity Stream app will only work if the device is connected to your Xfinity Internet in-home network through Ethernet or WiFi", and in an earlier reply you said that it WILL work and I would get my full Comcast content with my Linksys wifi and "bring my own" modem. So I'm having trouble understanding what "away from home" means. For instance, what if I took my Linksys router and Roku stick to a friend's house? Would the Roku then think it was "home"? Why not?

You must have a modem/gateway connected to the Comcast network. Comcast uses that device's MAC address to authorize use of 'in-home' video. When people complain they are on their home network, but it doesn't work, is a sign that authorization is not working properly.

Also, using your modem elsewhere may or may not work. If it's close enough to communicate with the same head-end, it may work. Further away, it will come up as unauthorized and will push you into the 'walled garden' authorization screen.

This is garbage Xfinity was on point , now all of these dumb restrictions are starting to get on my nerves...... The service isn't cheap but it lacks so many features that the competition offer for cheaper price..... You should be able to log into the app on Roku and stream your services as long as you're connected it shouldn't matter if you're in your home or not ....Catch up Xfinity

Xfinity has agreements with stations that dictate where and how we can deliver content. We are constantly working with those stations to help meet the needs of our customers.
