Hi All -

The Xfinity TV Remote App is no longer available. If you still have it on your device, you may see missing content, blank screens, error messages, and/or information about upgrading to X1 service (even if you have X1), depending on which operating system your phone uses and which functions you attempt to use.

The good news is that almost all of the content and functionality in the Xfinity TV Remote App for scheduling DVR Recordings, Viewing Program listings and more has been incorporated into the Xfinity Stream App.

If you are looking for the ability to control your TV via a mobile device, this functionality is available by using our Web Remote.  Just access http://remote.xfinity.com on your phone, tablet, or computer's web browser (such as Chrome, Safari, or Edge).

If you'd like to create a shortcut on your Apple iOS or Android mobile device, I have provided some instructions below, which may vary a bit depending on the device you're using.

Creating a shortcut on an iPhone or iPad

  1. Launch Safari on your ‌iPhone‌ or ‌iPad‌.
  2. Navigate to remote.xfinity.com
  3. Log in with your username and password. If you wish, check the box to "Stay Signed In."
  4. If prompted, choose the TV Box you'd like to control
  5. Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing out of it) at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Scroll down to the list of actions and tap Add to Home Screen.
  7. Name the Shortcut and tap Add. You should now have an icon that you can tap to access the web remote quickl!

Creating a shortcut on an Android phone using Chrome

  1. Launch Chrome app.
  2. Navigate to remote.xfinity.com
  3. Type your username and password. If you wish, check the box to "Stay Signed In." to make it faster to access next time
  4. Tap Menu icon (3 dots in upper right-hand corner) and tap Add to home screen.
  5. Click Install as an App or Create Shortcut and follow the prompts to Install or Save.
  6. You should now have an icon that you can tap to access your web remote quickly.

I hope this helps!

"The good news is that almost all of the content and functionality" this part has to be a joke.... I don't want remote control buttons on the web, I want the guide on the web/app (mobile device) to just pick a channel without needing to look at the TV screen.  Talk about taking away functionality and bringing us back to an interface from 2001.

@XfinityBecker really sad you took down this app. For all the money you charge!! Very upset and disappointed!!

It’s ridiculous. I always used my the TV Remote app on my iPad to view the TV channel guide and select the channel I want to watch (and change my TV to that channel). I never used to use my physical remote control to change channels.

@XfinityBecker please bring back the tv remote app. this alternative option is not great!

@XfinityBecker We have been using -- depending on -- the Xfinity TV Remote app to assist a relative with failing memory.  We have to do this by remote when at work or otherwise away.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION and our frustration: neither of the solutions that you suggest works for this. The "Streaming" app has none of the necessary functionality to control what is playing on the Xfinity DVR at home.

The web remote gets close, but it does not provide necessary control to reliably start DVR playlists running. (If you can do it **while you are out of sight of the TV and don't know what it is doing at this moment**, I would be very, very grateful if you would explain how.  With the wonderful (now crushed by Xfinity) TV Remote app, we could easily do that.

We need it back. Desperately.

@gstepp On December 18, the Xfinity TV Remote app was decommissioned and removed from the Apple Store and Google Play. However, as of December 19, customers who still have the app on their mobile devices should be able to use it as they would normally. The app is no longer available for download.

Because your prior instructions were to uninstall then reinstall, I no longer can get the app back on my phone. SHAME ON YOU XFINITY. I relied on that app for my autistic son. Your solution does not work for my tv’s that aren’t “smart”. I am so mad at your company.

Xfinity removed it. No explanation. No asking if it was useful or needful. [Edited: "Language"] Xfinity.

So Dena,

Let TPTB that this is a great disapointment to Xfinity customers.  Please let them know that this app should be returned to service.

Thank you.

Why can’t Xfinity TV apps and onscreen guide indicate new programs? I have to use another app (the TV Guide app) to see which programs are new.

This new method is awful. Suddenly options became grayed out and unusable on this new version of a remote. You took a perfectly good app that was accessible to people with disabilities and killed it. This is not accessible to people with physical disabilities. Please consider making something that is accessible, or just give us back the app which worked just fine.

So you have to download a TV remote app to control each Box/DVR you have!!!

That is 🤯

@user_8cb498  It's not just the remote functionality but the combined guide and remote.  No remote buttons, you scrolled through the guide and just picked your show, and it changed to that channel. You get zero guide with 3rd party or even the remote.xfinity joke. So now you need 2 different apps to replace what worked perfectly in one.

I was upset when I found the app missing.  I used often and liked the functionality. I just spent time with the Stream App and surprisingly it has all the functionality of the old TV Remote App and then some.  It’s got the same live tv listings as the old, a better list of My Recordings, Upcommiing  recordings and more.  If you were upset as I was I urge you to take a look at the revised Stream App. As much as I’m anti Xfinity these days I have to say this change is a  good one.

@woodgeek it does not have all the functionality, you can not change channels via the guide on a STB from the stream app, only changes the channel on the device you are streaming on. So the major “remote” portion is not there at the moment.
