Will Xfinity update an IMEI number on a non supported device

i started with a PIXEL xl but it broke and I put the SIM card into an Essential PH-1 (this phone is very similar to the PIXEL).  Everything works just fine.

The IMEI is of a supported phone.  If I call xfinity and ask to change over the IMEI even though my current phone is not supported, will they? 

How important is it the Xfinity has my correct IMEI attached to my account?
