Not able to set up pin for voicemail

I have followed the sequence:

Under phone contacts>Settings>Voicemail>Set PIN- when I press enter I get a spinning message:

"Please wait" that does not allow me to proceed any further. Very annoying that my calls to customer support have not been helpful.!!
