Mobile Data Not Working While On a Call

I don't know why but about a month ago, my mobile data stopped working while I am on a phone call.  I have an iPhone XR and I'm on the Xfinity Mobile unlimited plan.  If I try to use an app or surf the web or get email while I'm on a call, I get a message that says "cellular data is not available during this call".

I called Xfinity twice about this and they told me that Xfinity does not have the abililty for data usage while making a call.  This, of course is absolutely wrong and why TWO different tech support reps told me this is just unbelievable.  Anyway, my girlfriend pointed out that in "settings" > "cellular" > "cellular data options" > "voice & data" you have to have "LTE, VoLTE On" needs to be checked.  Once I checked this, my problem went away and everything worked as it should.

Someone please tell the tech support reps this basic tip and save others from wasting their time.

Xfinity uses the Verizon network, whose technology only allows concurrent calls and data (or more than one data connection) if you are on LTE. If your phone is on 3G you can only do one thing at a time.  Could that be what you are encountering?

Correct. The old CDMA 2G/3G technology did not provide concurrent voice and data. This is why many of us stuck with AT&T for so long even though Verizon used to have better coverage in many parts of the US. Verizon and XM no longer allow the activation of non-LTE phones as they are phasing out (replacing) their old antennas by the end of 2020 if not sooner.
