Can MMS messages be sent/received over WiFi on IOS? In my experience yes and no; will this be fixed?

Hi all,

I have two iPhones on Xfinity Mobile. I do not use cellular data at all - only WiFi at home and work.

I have discovered that MMS messages (photo messages) cannot be sent or received while on WiFi. It appears that cellular data must be turned on to use MMS messages when using an iPhone. Android users, however, can use MMS messages with cellular data turned off.

I have also discoverd that there is a workaround for iPhone users: if you turn on "WiFi Calling", then you may be able to use MMS messages with ceullar data turned off. There is one caveat: after turning on WiFi Calling, you must then put your phone into airplane mode. With WiFi calling turned on and the iPhone in airplane mode, MMS messages work with only a WiFi connection. This workaround is inconvenient because airplane mode means that I cannot make or receive phone calls while away from a WiFi network.

My question to Xfinity Mobile is this: on an iPhone, is it possible to have cellular data turned off and still send/receive MMS messages while on the ceullar network (i.e, not in airplane mode)? If so, how can I make this happen? Currently, MMS messages will only send if I turn on WiFi Calling and am in airplane mode.

Hi xfmp, thank you for reaching out to Xfinity Mobile. I understand the concern of not being able to send and receive MMS messages while on WIFI only. I will be happy to provide you information regarding this request.

With Xfinity Mobile, we currently do not have an option to push MMS with cellular data turned off. We are constantly trying to improve our network and features. We value and appreciate every inquiry and suggestion. At this time, there is currently no forecasted time frame for if this will become available in the future to our customers. My apologies, as I am not able to provide you a workaround, I can appreciate the time you spend on the workaround you've found. Please know that we are here for any future questions or concerns.

Yep that’s the dummest thing I’ve herd all day. It’s been a issue for years. I have no service at my house and rely on WiFi. Been on the phone with them tons of times. Such a simple thing they can’t even fix.

I am also pretty sure they could update there APN. To let us access mms over WiFi. There just to cheap to do it. They could also let us adjust the APN. But they blocked us from that too.

I've had the same problem on droid in the past. In airplane mode with wifi turned on, some days I can send MMS text and other days I can't. Starting about a week ago I can't send/receive MMS or SMS text if in airplane mode and wifi turned on
