Android December 2020 Security Update

When will I get the December 2020 Security Update on my 4a 5G phone?

Google tells me it is up to the Carrier, in this case Xfinity.

Xfinity tells me is is up to Google as the manufactur of the phone.

Verizon tell me that they have nothing to do with Xfinity sending the update.

In addition, I chatted with Google Pixel support, an they are telling me to send my phone in for repair????

My question - should I have received the update by now?

I think the update should have been received by now. But I also have not received the December Security update for my Pixel 5 phone. I have seen another posting in this forum from others having the same issue. But one or two of the posts also indicate they've received the update. My wife has a 4a pixel (not 5G) which received the December update around the 9th of December. To get the update I had to manually check for the update through settings> system> System update.

I check daily for the update.  I just wish I could find out if the update is available or not.  Nobody seems to know for sure and keeps pointing at the other party.

Google says Xfinity is responsible.

Xfinity says Google is responsible.

Hi there! I'd be glad to ensure that this gets looked into further. Please click on my handle (ComcastRob) and send a private message with your name, the complete service address (including city, state, ZIP, suite number, etc), and the phone or account number, and any pertinent details-- like the ticket number(s)-- so we can help. @joe-guthrie

Xfinity has the update. They just can't edit it to make it work for the pixel.
My phone had so many issues since unboxing. I was holding our for the December update, but Google is sending me a new unlocked phone.
I'm not sure if it's going to work with my Xfinity mobile service if it doesn't Xfinity mobiles lost a brand new customer for being slow to the race.

What issues did you all have with your Pixel 4a 5G so I can be on the lookout? Mine is arriving this week.

Also, how did you get a replacement from Google instead of a replacement from Xfinity?

The only issue was not being able to get the monthly softaware security update.  The phone is still on November 2020.

I am getting the replacement phone from Google since I purchased it from Google and not Xfinity.

Not sure this is a problem on Google end. My wife and I both got the 4a5g at the same time early December. Neither of us have received the update. I think this is xfinity's issue.... maybe a glitch with 5g. Phones came unlocked straight from google. I'm waiting on a sim from att and plan on leaving xfinity..... and hopefully get the update. If I receive update from att I will post an update.

Re: Android December 2020 Security Update

I also have a Pixel 5 and it will not receive the December update. My latest security version is Android 11 November. I tried manually checking for an update but the update did not download. Hoping to get the issue fixed since the January update was released yesterday.

For what it's worth, I contacted Google Pixel support. They recommended waiting up to 2 weeks. The December & January update will be delivered together. They also suggested the Google Pixel Repair web site (https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/carrier_selection) to manually download the update but when I tried to use the site, I received a message that xFinity was not my carrier.

So, I have an update. I received my ATT prepaid sim this morning and got it activated. I did a factory reset on my phone....was planning on doing that anyways since I changed carriers. With the ATT sim and reset not only was the Dec update there the Jan update came right after it. I have no doubt this is a xfinity issue. Before I switched to ATT I did try a factory reset initially which did not help. Again, this is for a 4a5g unlocked from Google store. For those of you who stay on xfinity mobile I hope you get the update soon. No reason they should be taking this long.

The information below indicates you should select "other carriers", instead of Xfinity if you brought an unlocked phone to Xfinity.  I can't get the pixel tool to recognize my Pixel 5.  So I have not been able to try this myself.

Forum postings below show that manually updating (side loading)  the OTA December image for "all carriers" is working.

Thank you Joe! While it's probably not optimal, I was able to successfully side load the December and January updates to my Pixel5 using the link you provided.

I just received the December and January updates after doing a manual check in system settings.  Maybe XM is starting to get this sorted out.  Although I also responded to a message  a couple of days ago from a Comcast employee @ComcastRob offfering to look into this issue if I provided him some information.
