Xfinity TV Remote App going away

I just received an email from Xfinity stating that the Xfinity TV Remote App is going away as of 2/11/2025.  This is unacceptable.  I rely on this app not only to control my TV remotely for my aging mother who cannot change the channels but also to set recordings for TV shows remotely.  Why would Xfinity take away a much needed tool from its customers?  Please reconsider or offer an alternative that has all the same functionality for remote access and control when not at home where the TV box is located.  I looked at the web browser remote and it is not an acceptable alternative.  It is lacking most of the functionality that is in the Xfinity TV Remote App.

It's clear that they aren't changing their minds. Either get used to it or move to pure streaming.  They regressed about 15 years.

Here we go again. It wasn’t long ago that the Xfinity TV Remote app was “retired,” only to return to the Play Store and Apple App Store about 24 hours later following significant customer backlash. At the time, I thought the decision-makers at Xfinity had heard our concerns and responded appropriately.

Clearly, I was wrong.

I genuinely don’t understand this decision. Many people rely on the app, myself included. As someone with a disability, I use it several times a day. It’s been incredibly helpful—especially when I’ve dropped the physical remote or can’t easily access it. I use it to browse my Favorites list, change channels, and control the seek bar while watching recordings. Being in a wheelchair, I’ve also used the app from another room so I don’t miss parts of a show.

Xfinity may see the TV Remote app as a minor convenience, but for many of us, it’s a vital tool that improves daily life.

And no—the web version is not a viable replacement.

Removing the app has me seriously considering other service providers. So I’m asking—please, bring back the Xfinity TV Remote app. It matters more than you realize.

Xfinity pay more do less. Stop taking away apps, so disappointing.

Being disabled and having arthritis in your hands, sure makes the remote very hard to use. It was much easier with the app. I can look up programs on the stream app, but I still have to use the remote to change channels.  it sure was a lot easier when the app was operational.

Charly1823 I can definitely understand how the app could make changing channels easier when you have arthritis! Xfinity does offer voice remote options that can make changing the channel as easy pressing one button and saying the name of the channel your would like to see, or the movie you would like to watch! You can find some great information about hte Xfinity Voice Remote here https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/get-to-know-voice-remote. We also offer a large button remote if you feel that would work better, you can find more information on the Xfintiy Large Button Remote here https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/large-button-remotes.

@RDE Maintaining a robust and cutting-edge video service requires us to make careful choices about our technology investments. After evaluating usage patterns and technical limitations, it was determined that the TV Remote App no longer aligned with our long-term strategy for delivering the best possible experience. This decision allows us to direct our energy and resources towards developing new features, and improving existing ones, that will provide a more robust and enjoyable experience.
