Xfinity TV Remote App going away
I just received an email from Xfinity stating that the Xfinity TV Remote App is going away as of 2/11/2025. This is unacceptable. I rely on this app not only to control my TV remotely for my aging mother who cannot change the channels but also to set recordings for TV shows remotely. Why would Xfinity take away a much needed tool from its customers? Please reconsider or offer an alternative that has all the same functionality for remote access and control when not at home where the TV box is located. I looked at the web browser remote and it is not an acceptable alternative. It is lacking most of the functionality that is in the Xfinity TV Remote App.

Agree that this is a ridiculous decision by Xfinity. This was one of the most used app on my iPhone. There is NOT alternative available. It is critical to be able to schedule recordings while not at home, which is now impossible!

Well - the votes are in. The people have spoken. Bring the TV Remote app back.

Boneheaded move on Comcast’s/ Xfinity s part. No reach out to customers about their feelings/use of the APP, just pulled it for financial reasons. In today’s tech world, this functionality is easy. Heck, the know it and tried to bring the function in house, thinking it was a cheaper, equivalent function. Nope. It’s worse. I have a remote I can use infront of the TV. But now I am forced to use the [Edited: "Language"] remote to scroll through the guide and set recordings. On the app, it was a couple of swipes to do it, no matter my location. Now I have to be infront of the TV
conmcast/Xfinity should have polled the users first before making this decision

I believe this is a ploy by Xfinity to hike their already outrageous rates even more so.
I never received any such email about Xfinity discontinuing their remote app, which was very convenient for my wife and I to use.
I can get fiberoptic Internet through my electricity provider at half the cost of Xfinity. The caveat is that I would have to purchase other devices (Roku, etc) or smart TVs, or get used to stringing together my preferred channels from multiple sources, HOWEVER many streaming services are now being integrated into various apps, so it might be the perfect time to cut ties with Xfinity and their price-gouging.

I’m agree. I’m legally blind so having the ability to see the guide right up close was a big help. Voice control and audio is clunkier. Good for some, but not me please bring it back

I never received any email or other communication about this from xFinity. This is horrible, as I use this app all the time as it is so much easier to view the guide on my phone than across the room on the TV (even with glasses I have trouble reading it)
they always remove features/services that I use and rely on. First they eliminated the ability to manage my wifi devices on the PC... and force us to the use the app. I much prefer a full--size keyboard and screen then managing all my devices on my network thru the tiny screen / keyboard on my phone.
Now here is an app on my phone that I again rely on (use daily), and they shut it down.
And not sure why some users got notice thru an email and others (myself included) did not.
yet, our bill keeps getting higher. We just had a rate increase in the past month or so.
👎🏻☹️

I agree with what everyone is saying here. Xfinity is a terrible company. Be sure to give them a terrible rating. Why get rid of an app that has been available for years and used by many? Time to cancel service.

Agree. Can't always read tv screen guide to check options for programming. If you forget to set record for a particular program and are away from home, unable to set record like you can from phone or other device.

This is terrible, Being to scroll quickly through the guide in the app was the best feature, paging up and down on the tv is so annoying. Please bring that back!

Bunch of <Edited: Language> over there. This company continues to go downhill, and they had a decent run, especially between 2018-2022. Customers are looking for the "why" behind the discontinuation of the very useful Remote App. There was a lawsuit about copyright infringement a few years ago, which caused some functionality to be removed, but then they won and it came back. I don't see anything about a new lawsuit at this time. I'm sure there's a reason for this; share it and don't keep repeating the same pre-approved response.

30 year customer and the only up vote I can give Comcast/Xfinity over those years is the TV Remote app. I’ve used the TV remote app as a remote and “guide” especially for as long as it’s been available. Very disappointing Xfinity is taking this away from its customers. Another favorite feature was on demand and managing the DVR. Browsing through the app was extremely easy, right from my iPad or phone while watching TV without interruptions. The web remote Xfinity considers a replacement is pathetic and honestly a marketing joke and lie to your customers. With the recent price increases and removal of features, I think you have probably pushed me to cut the TV cord.

The web app having to use a browser is absolutely ridiculous and in my opinion just garbage!! I tried on my phone and couldn’t even get it to work!! If someone is handicapped this has now become a nightmare!! The brass at Comcast should be ashamed of themselves!! Also they need to be crediting all the customers who are paying for local sports since we need to use an antenna which is free to watch Blackhawks games. Both are just greed by a big corporation

Removing the remote is xfinity going back to the Stone Age!! What’s the point of paying for a service that doesn’t support the guide and remote on an app!
