Xfinity TV Remote app discontinued?

Hello.  My Xfinity TV remote app was no longer working with communicating to my X1 box. I deleted it, and when I tried to reinstall it from the Apple app store, I couldn’t find it. Was it discontinued? If so, why, are there plans to reintroduce it? Thanks

Hi All -

The Xfinity TV Remote App is no longer available. If you still have it on your device, you may see missing content, blank screens, error messages, and/or information about upgrading to X1 service (even if you have X1), depending on which operating system your phone uses and which functions you attempt to use.

The good news is that almost all of the content and functionality in the Xfinity TV Remote App for scheduling DVR Recordings, Viewing Program listings and more has been incorporated into the Xfinity Stream App.

If you are looking for the ability to control your TV via a mobile device, this functionality is available by using our Web Remote.  Just access http://remote.xfinity.com on your phone, tablet, or computer's web browser (such as Chrome, Safari, or Edge).

If you'd like to create a shortcut on your Apple iOS or Android mobile device, I have provided some instructions below, which may vary a bit depending on the device you're using.

Creating a shortcut on an iPhone or iPad

  1. Launch Safari on your ‌iPhone‌ or ‌iPad‌.
  2. Navigate to remote.xfinity.com
  3. Log in with your username and password. If you wish, check the box to "Stay Signed In."
  4. If prompted, choose the TV Box you'd like to control
  5. Tap the Share icon (the square with an arrow pointing out of it) at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Scroll down to the list of actions and tap Add to Home Screen.
  7. Name the Shortcut and tap Add. You should now have an icon that you can tap to access the web remote quickl!

Creating a shortcut on an Android phone using Chrome

  1. Launch Chrome app.
  2. Navigate to remote.xfinity.com
  3. Type your username and password. If you wish, check the box to "Stay Signed In." to make it faster to access next time
  4. Tap Menu icon (3 dots in upper right-hand corner) and tap Add to home screen.
  5. Click Install as an App or Create Shortcut and follow the prompts to Install or Save.
  6. You should now have an icon that you can tap to access your web remote quickly.

I hope this helps!

Xfinity Assistant still directs users reporting this problem to the App Store for a download so that should be fixed. As a customer that has tried reporting this multiple times and endured the pain of trying to get a live representative, this should have been communicated to your customers. Thank you for adding this post that I finally found while on hold with the representative that couldn’t help me.

@XfinityBecker

as you can see, the decision to discontinue app has really upset people. This was a really nice feature! I have been using it for yrs and dont even use a remote. The ability to quickly scroll through guide was awesome and search was easy. I suggest bringing it back. Is it that much to support?

The same exact thing also just happened to me. I tried to use the app as normal but got an error message saying guide information was missing. I figured it was glitching so I uninstalled, when I went to the App Store to reinstall I can’t find it. Im also wondering if it’s discontinued? I hope not.

Just noticed this myself.  I also have the xfinity streaming app and I guess we can use this instead now.  The old app was just easier to use. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️😏. It’s streaming tho, not thru the cable.

The streaming app doesn’t function as a remote.  Frustrating 😡

I also had issues & deleted to reinstall and am unable to.  I liked being able to turn on my TV and change it to my desired channel before I got home - can’t do that with the streaming app.  Kind of frustrating.

Get it together, xfinity. My TV is now on screensaver because I neither respond to nor escape from a reminder.

Same problem.  The physical remote stopped working over a year ago.  Have been using app.  Now that the app isn’t working I am unable to change channels, use voice to record, and so on.   How can I record shows & play back recordings now?
