Unable to open port successfully. Software said port is opened but in fact still closed.

Received the xFi gateway, need to open several ports with success in port 80, 5000 and 5001 only.  Cannot open others that I need, port 8000 in particular that I need for my camera.  Used Xfinity app as instructed for opening ports.  Turned port on one by one and each port comes back stating its been opened.  However, running port open test shows some in fact are still closed.  I have reset the router via SW, port still closed while SW said its opened.  Tried HW reset with the reset button in the back of the modem, same result.  Port 8000 still closed after using the Xfinity app to open the port (SW said its opened).  I did not use Advanced Security as I opted out the option when I installed the Xfinity app.  Please help.
