Need NHK WORLD JAPAN free app on FireTV help to activate while watching

We, as XFinity customers, lost programming and channel 265 fully removed as of March 31st, 2026 from our NJ tv viewing area. Here in Ocean County, Monmouth County areas.

We are truly bummed but have an inquiry to have an option to receiving it.

The free app thru Fire TV viewing of all the programming for NHKWorld Japan  would include Grand Sumo highlights as well? Needs some help how you physically get it activated on the screen while viewing? Please advise.

Very dissappointed with NHK World Japan pulling this. Thank you in advance.

Hello, @user_jys0aj! I am sorry to hear about the channel loss; losing a favorite program like NHK World Japan, especially for the Grand Sumo highlights, is a real disappointment. Since you are looking to bridge that gap with the Fire TV app, here is exactly how to get it running.

How to Install and "Activate" the App

The NHK World-Japan app is free and, unlike many cable apps, it typically does not require a login or "activation code" through a website to start watching. You just need to download it:

1. Search: From the Fire TV Home screen, go to the Find (magnifying glass) icon or use the Voice button on your remote and say "NHK World Japan."

2. Download: Select the app from the results (look for the blue and white NHK logo) and click Get or Download.

3. Open: Once installed, select Open.

4. Viewing: The app should load directly into the live stream or the home menu. You don't need to link your Xfinity account because the content is provided for free by the broadcaster.

Grand Sumo Highlights

Yes, the app includes the Grand Sumo Highlights.

- Live Stream: If a tournament is currently running, the highlights often air at specific times on the live "NHK WORLD-JAPAN" feed.

- On-Demand: You can usually find a dedicated "Sumo" section within the app's VOD (Video on Demand) menu. These are typically 30-minute English-language programs covering the day’s top bouts.

- Note: Highlights are usually available for about two weeks after they air.

Alternative for NJ Viewers

Since you are in the Monmouth/Ocean County area, there was a recent update on April 1st, 2026 regarding local broadcasting:

- WLIW 21.3: NHK World-Japan moved to digital channel 21.3. If you have an over-the-air antenna, you can re-scan your channels to pick it up for free.

- Livestream: You can also watch the full broadcast directly in a web browser at njpbs.org/live/nhk-world.

If the app asks you for a "Pairing Code" (which occasionally happens for personalized features), it will display a code on your TV screen. You would then go to the URL shown on the screen (usually nhk.jp/activate) on your phone or computer to enter it - but for standard viewing, you should be able to skip this entirely.

Please let me know if this helps!
