Known Devices that have previously connected to our Wi-Fi are suddenly "connecting as new devices"

Every so often devices that have previously connected to our Wi-Fi reconnecting as a "new device". For example, we will get a notification from the app that says "A device called iPhone just connected to your home network for the first time. Name and assign it for more control." That is my cell phone, and it has been previously connected to the Wi-Fi, yet we get this message every couple of days with different devices (laptops, desktops, different cell phones, smart watches, televisions, etc.).

1. Why do we get these messages?

2. How do we tell the system not to tell us that previously recognized devices have connected to the network "for the first time"?
