jumbo frames breaks imap and also xfinity web app

If I enable jumbo frames (MTU=9014) imap stops working and the xfinity web 'app bar' at the top of xfinity.com never comes up preventing use of web email.  I've seen historic complaints 2-3 years ago confirming this.  Can anyone speak to how to get this resolved?  My LAN MTU should have nothing to do with Xfinity - it gets broken up at the firewall so what's up with this?
