How Pause & Parent Controls Were Defeated

I just wanted to share how my little darling was outsmarting me. We parents have to stick together. He just said “XFi” into the tv remote, navigated to People, then changed his profile settings to his liking. Meanwhile, I was resetting passwords, searching forums, and tearing my hair out. I hope this helps another beleaguered parent.

That is funny and i am sure stressful for you at the same time!  You can set it so that a password is needed and then if he says something into the remote control he will need a pin code to be able to open up the xFi from the remote control.  Please let me know if you need my help on how to do that so that he will not be able to go in and make those changes.

Hey Josh, thanks for the quick reply. I’ll be able to figure out the steps, but can you post here to save others the headache? I have to say, there’s a teeny bit of respect for a kid to outsmart me so easily, despite my techie background. Missed the obvious while I was down in the weeds. Needless to say, the iPad has been confiscated.
Can you provide some more info for vitreen99 who also had teenager issues? I noticed you can also view the gateway password via the TV without a pin. And a shout out to jdouros for the great repro steps. A background in UAT/QA or development maybe? I’d love to hear the solution for what he reported.

I am having a similar issue. My son is creating and connecting a whole new “device” since I have his current Xbox paused late night hours. I see it connect as Xbox1 or then Xbox12 the next night after I paused the Xbox1.. so frustrating!!! I changed my xfinity password and at least he can’t adjust his downtime hours restrictions but can’t seem to figure out how he’s creating a whole new device to connect each night. Changing the WiFi password isn’t an option. Any suggestions?

I have the same issue , how can this fixed . He connects by changing the name and a couple of digits on the MAC it’s called MAC spoofing , I think ... I have been trying to overcome this situation . How can I have any new device that wants to connect to my network to ask for permission or to connect to guest network where I can manage it and accept if they should be connected ? This way my teenage son can not just change Ghebreyesus MAC address and connect to the network as a new device ??? Help .
