How could I possibly get credit for a post that I did not write?
The post follows as, "Xfinity app upgrade to assign devices to a pod
Is there an upgrade available or comming to use the xfinity app to assign a device to a pod? I bought my first pod today thinking from all I could read it was plug and play. Well, that's not possible because there appears to be to manyzdevice from different sources and apparently no automation standard for the task of joining an existing evolving network in the light of mesh! For the aware purchaser. There needs to be that option! My first impression of the app was fantastic! Tells me what I needed to know is going on! Kudos to your developer! I could I dentify the problem right away with thus app, my wifi dB meter and a few restarted devices. The newer stuff does a better job in general ( like cell phones) with the pod, but THAT'S MY GUESTS and not my infrastructure! I have over 20 devices already and growing to manage and 8 that are core equipment. I have started running temporary cat5e cables with connectors on the ends in my new house because lots of black cable cable with no ends was never hooked up when I got my comcast service...
I need answer or I have to take it back...."
What I have been credited with above is not my doing!
I did not have the above opinion when I first started using this App. The first page that comes up is unorganized and cluttered, which distracted me from my mission statement of figuring out what was causing Wi-Fi problems. This startup page for me as a new user was completely counter intuitive for a my home network tool! I had to dig deep and push all the icons one at a time to see what it can do for me. I also had to figure out things like Green for "Strong" by an Intermediate Device or an End Device Icon means about -66dBM signal strength and Yellow for "Fair" means about -67dBm at the low end. When I knew that my POD was in the wrong place for some of my devices. I had to translate some things with many hours of peeling back the onion on all the layers of information to do a survey of my 1800 square foot home and figure out where the areas of Wi-Fi line of site interferences were with the help of the free Wi-Fiman APP. Once I built my excel spreadsheet to see what I was looking at with MAC addresses for positive device identification, IP addresses for Ping, tracert (DOS PC test Tools) and Speed Test testing for when things went down, from one location in the house, I could see if I ran Cat5e to some key device to increase their speed and unload the Wi-Fi network for the things that were stationary or moving devices on the fringe of going from GREEN to YELLOW after a network test. In addition, I discovered it was the Xfi XB7-T Gateway that was restarting that was my biggest issue. My wife told me her TV was one of the worst offenders for her personally after I ran cable to her PC and before I started this study. My test showed with ping, tracrt and Speed Test the data was not getting through the router to the outside world! However, whenever I needed clarification on anything about the Xfinity app I had to set down at my PC with phone in hand to figure out what icon I had to push to get the data I needed to move forward. With online research I asked my wife if there any error messages she was getting on the next failure and she said, "Yes, Internet connection is unstable!", which then made perfect sense. This problem stated as a serious problem, starting about November 27 till today (12/8/22) I suspect a network hub, above ground connection box or and underground feed to the house at this point. Today is the first day in that period that the Gateway had not gone down around 10PM. I at least have a target for the current failure frequency problem and I am coming up with a system to log the failure rates automatically. For future planning the Xfinity app tells me what devices are connected to the Pod and to the Gateway, which will be useful after I completed the Cat5e connections. All my online study is leading me to believe Gateways as a group for residential use can just get in trouble like a cell phone with two many apps in it. My phone now has an app in it that I have to click on to clean it up, my PC has an OEM app that “Optimizes the PC” why can’t they do this in the morning about 3AM. I’m looking for a way to restart the gateway at that time after I have a mean time between gateway restarts base line is established, and then see if that really helps based on the online advice I see to do so. Well 11:25 PM and no restart! Task manager is on another monitor with Ethernet that I have been watching since 10PM I’ll restart the Gateway from here with the Xfinity app and go to bed. Is there a spell check in the editor?
