Installation

You can get Xfinity Flex shipped directly to your home or by picking up your equipment at a local Xfinity Store. Your order includes a Flex 4K streaming TV Box, Xfinity Voice Remote, power adapter HDMI cable and Getting Started kit.

Just follow the instructions in the Getting Started kit and you'll be up and running in no time. If you have questions during your activation, refer to our activation guide or chat with us. You'll need the phone number associated with your account when you activate the streaming TV Box, so have that handy.

If you’re renting a Gateway, your Xfinity Flex streaming TV Box will automatically connect to the internet during the activation process. If you’re using an eligible modem that you purchased, you’ll be prompted to set up WiFi manually during activation.

Getting Started Kit

Xfinity Flex can be installed by a Getting Started kit, which includes:
  • Flex streaming 4K TV Box.
  • Xfinity Voice Remote.
  • Power cable.
  • HDMI cable.
  • Getting Started Guide.

Activate Your Xfinity Flex 4K Streaming TV Box

  1. First, you need to activate your Xfinity Internet service using the Xfinity app.
    • This includes customers who rent an Xfinity Gateway or own their own modem.
    • For more help, follow the step-by-step instructions on Activating Your Xfinity Internet Service.
    • Before setting up your Xfinity Flex streaming TV Box, make sure you can connect to your home Xfinity Internet network (either WiFi or wired with Ethernet cable) through a desktop or mobile device.
  2. If you’re activating an Xfinity Gateway or your own modem and your Flex device, you’ll be presented with an option to Begin Flex Setup after your Internet device has been successfully activated.
  3. Otherwise, you can select the Activate Flex option from the Overview tab or Account page. (The Account page The account page icon is displayed.is located in the top-left corner of the Overview tab.)
  4. You’ll then be promoted to select the correct MAC address, which can be found on the bottom of your Flex device. If you have more than one Flex device, you’ll need to activate one at a time.
  5. After successfully validating your Flex device, the Xfinity app will assist you in setting up your device.
    • Connect the HDMI cable from your TV to your Xfinity Flex 4K streaming TV Box. Turn on your TV using your TV's remote and choose the correct HDMI input from the TV menu.
    • Note: When looking at the back of the device, the HDMI port is the largest port, or the second port from the right.
    • Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet and connect the other end to the USB-C port on your Xfinity Flex 4K streaming TV Box.
      • Note: When looking at the back of the device, the USB-C port is the smallest port, or the first port from the right.
      • Once the power indicator lights up (on the top of the device, towards the front), you’re ready to go!Only use the supplied power adapter, and avoid outlets controlled by dimmers.
    • Your Voice Remote comes installed with two AA batteries. Remove the plastic tab from the back of the Voice Remote (by pulling the tab towards the top of the remote), and wait for on-screen instructions. Make sure you’re within ten feet of your Flex 4K streaming TV Box and your Voice Remote is aimed directly at the front of it.

  6. If you have an Xfinity Gateway, your Flex 4K streaming TV Box will attempt to connect to your WiFi automatically. If you'd like to set up your connection manually, press theInfo(i) button on your Voice Remote. If your Flex 4K streaming TV Box can’t connect automatically,
    • You’ll be asked to select your Language.
    • Then, manually connect by entering your Private WIFI Name and Password or WiFi Protected Setup (WPS).
  7. Select your language.
    • Make sure you’re pointing the Voice Remote directly at the front of the Flex streaming 4K TV Box and are less than ten feet away.
    • Note:If your Voice Remote isn’t working and you get stuck on the language selection, you might need to unpair your remote from a previous TV device. Get instructions to unpair your Voice Remote atxfinity.com/unpair.
  8. You’ll be asked if you’d like to continue usingVoice Guidance. If you chooseYes, all the following activation instructions will be spoken to you. If you chooseNo, you’ll go through the visuals shown below.

  9. If your Flex device requires aFirmware Update, we’ll need to restart your device to download the latest firmware requirements.
  10. Activating your device:
    • If you successfully validated your device using the Xfinity app, we’ll automatically activate the Flex device for you.
    • If you didn’t use the app, you’ll be required to enter your account information on-screen.
      • Enter the last four digits of any phone number listed on your Xfinity account using the number keys or directional pad on your Voice Remote.
      • If you’re having trouble using the last four digits of a phone number, you can select theVerify another waybutton and verify with an SMS verification code or by entering your account information instead.
  11. Once your device is successfully activated, you’ll need to name your device.
  12. Your device will automatically be optimized for sound and 4K video.
  13. The last and final step will be setting up your Voice Remote to control your TV Box and your TV and Audio Equipment’s power and volume. Follow the on-screen steps.
  14. If your Internet connection hasn't been fully established, you may be asked to connect to your home private WiFi network. Please refer to Step #6 above for the WiFi Setup instructions on how to connect to your network. Congratulations! Your Flex 4K streaming TV Box is now ready to use! Activate Using the Xfinity App

  1. Power on your Flex TV streaming Box. If you’ve just finished activating an Xfinity Gateway, you’ll be presented with the option to activate a Flex box directly after. Otherwise, you can select Activate Flex Device at any time from the Account page.

  2. Choose a Flex Box to activate by selecting the MAC address, which can be found on the bottom of the device. Note that you can select multiple MAC addresses if activating more than one Flex Box at one time.

Activation Troubleshooting

  • If you're having trouble activating your Flex streaming TV Box, the most common solution is to restart it by reconnecting your USB-C power cord and HDMI cable to both the Flex streaming TV Box and TV.
  • If your remote isn’t working, make sure you’re standing within ten feet of your Flex streaming TV Box and pointing the remote directly at the front of it. If that doesn't help, you might need to unpair your remote from a previous TV Box. Get instructions atxfinity.com/unpair.
  • If you’re unable to make a language selection, a pop-up message will direct you toxfinity.com/unpairfor instructions on resetting your remote.
  • Make sure you’re connected to the Internet. Restarting your modem can fix many common Internet-related issues. You can also try to connect with a wired Ethernet cable to check if the issue is with your WiFi connection.
  • If you're having network connection issues or need to reestablish your network connection, you can press theWPS button(two arrows icon) on the bottom of the Flex streaming TV Box.
  • If you receive an error when setting up your Voice Remote, you can skip this step by pressing theBack arrowbutton on your remote and selectingSkipwhen prompted. You can finishsetting up your Voice Remoteafter activation is complete.
  • If you come across an error screen and you can't fix the issue on your own, mention the error code on the bottom-right corner of your TV screen whentalking with us.

I am an X1 customer and I want Xfinity Flex for a spare room. How do I get an extra streaming box?
Xfinity Flex won't work in your home if you already have X1, but we can give you another X1 TV Box for your spare room.

How do I cancel Flex?
You can cancel Xfinity Flex at any time by returning your Xfinity Flex equipment.

How do I return my Xfinity Flex equipment?
Go to xfinity.com/returns, and you’ll see a list of all the Xfinity equipment on your account.

Select your Xfinity Flex streaming TV Box, and then you’ll be given two return options:

  • Print a free UPS return label, then pack it in the original shipping box (if you still have it) and ship it to us.
  • Bring it to a local Xfinity Store, where it will be taken off your account immediately.

If I cancel Xfinity Flex, will I lose my Xfinity Internet service?
No, canceling Xfinity Flex will have no effect on your Xfinity Internet service. However, you'll be required to return your Xfinity Flex streaming TV Box.

How do I set up Xfinity Flex?
Before you begin, make sure your Xfinity Internet is active. Secure the HDMI cable between your TV and the Xfinity Flex streaming TV Box. Plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet and connect it to your Xfinity Flex streaming box, then follow the on-screen prompts to activate.

Note: You can also begin the activation process using the Xfinity app. 

Do I need an Xfinity xFi Gateway to get Xfinity Flex or can I use my own modem?
We recommend using an xFi Gateway to use features like our Xfinity xFi digital dashboard right on your TV, but you can choose to use your own modem instead.

How does xFi work with Xfinity Flex?
If you have an Xfinity xFi Gateway, you can control your xFi service on Xfinity Flex, including knowing what devices are online and pausing WiFi access during family time. Xfinity Flex automatically connects to the Internet using xFi.

Can I use the Xfinity Stream app as an Xfinity Flex customer?
Yes, you can watch purchased and/or rented content and premium subscriptions when you log into Xfinity Stream online or on the app with your Xfinity ID and password. If you'd like to watch live TV, plus gain access to Cloud DVR to record shows, as well as an On Demand library with over 100,000 movies and shows, you can upgrade to Choice TV with Xfinity Flex to use the Xfinity Stream app on your Flex streaming TV Box.

I currently subscribe to live TV channels through another service (e.g., YouTube TV, Hulu Live TV, DirecTV Now, Fubo TV, and/or Philo TV). Can I watch them on Xfinity Flex?
At this time, Sling TV Orange and Blue and Paramount+ are available on Xfinity Flex. For all other linear services, you’ll need to subscribe to Xfinity TV service in order to watch live broadcast and cable TV channels. Learn how to upgrade to Choice TV with Xfinity Flex right from your TV.

Can I buy movies and TV series?
Yes, you can rent or purchase thousands of movies and shows on Xfinity Flex. Whether you’re looking for family-friendly, laugh out loud, drama or horror, we have something for every mood! I have a 4K TV. Does Xfinity Flex support 4K UHD streaming?
Yes! The Xfinity Flex streaming TV Box supports 4K UHD streaming and provides access to 4K titles and content. 4K UHD content can be found using Prime Video, YouTube, Netflix, Disney+ and Xfinity On Demand currently, and more content will be added in the future. You'll need to have a 4K-compatible TV as well as, in some cases (like Netflix), a 4K subscription.

I currently subscribe to Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video, HBO Max and/or other OTT subscription services. Can I keep watching on Xfinity Flex using my existing login information?
Yes. You'll be asked to sign in once you open the app on Xfinity Flex.

I currently subscribe to Cinemax, Starz and/or EPIX online. Can I continue watching on Xfinity Flex using my existing credentials?
No. You'll need to cancel your existing subscription and purchase these services through Comcast in order to access them on your Xfinity Flex streaming TV Box.

I currently subscribe to SHOWTIME online (or app). Can I continue watching on Xfinity Flex using my existing credentials?
Yes. You can access your existing subscription through the SHOWTIME app on your Xfinity Flex streaming TV Box.

Does all my Xfinity Flex content, including content from Comcast/NBCUniversal and my Xfinity Home Camera feeds, count against my Internet usage?
Xfinity Flex is an Internet-only service, meaning all usage on Xfinity Flex is streamed over the Internet. Video (including from Comcast and NBCUniversal), music, web cameras and the Xfinity Flex guide itself — all of these will count toward your Internet usage. You can check your data usage in the Account section on Xfinity Flex.

Is Pay-Per-View available on Xfinity Flex?
No, not at this time. If you're interested in Pay-Per-View programming, we recommend an Xfinity TV package with X1.

How do I change the time on my Flex device?
Select Settings > Device Settings >Time and Measurement Preferences. Here, you can make the time on your Xfinity Flex streaming TV Box display as a 24-hour or 12-hour clock, change the day/month/year format and make the units of measurement and temperature US or Metric.
