ANSWERED: What is Xfinity Stream on Roku and how does it work?

Activate the Xfinity Stream Beta App on Roku

Learn how to activate the Xfinity Stream Beta app on your Roku.

Please note, you can’t use the Xfinity Stream Beta App on Roku prior to installation of your Xfinity Internet and Xfinity TV Services.

Once your Xfinity Internet and TV services are activated, you can get the app on these Roku models:

  • Roku TVs:A000X, C000X, 5000X, 6000X, 7000X, 8000X, G000X, E000X, D000X
  • Roku Streaming Media Players:
    • Roku Ultra (4340X, 4640X, 4660X, 4670X, 4800X) and Roku Ultra LT (4662X)
    • Roku Express (3700X, 3900X, 3930X), Express+ (3710X, 3910X, 3931X), Express 4K (3940X) and Express 4K+ (3941X)
    • Roku Premiere (3920X, 4620X) and Premiere+ (3921X, 4630X)
    • Roku 2 (4210X), Roku 3 (4200X, 4230X) and Roku 4 (4400X)
  • Roku Streaming Sticks:
    • Roku Streaming Stick (3600X, 3800X), Streaming Stick+ (3810X), Streaming Stick 4K (3820X) and Streaming Stick 4K+ (3821X)
  • Roku Soundbar:9100X
  • Roku Streambar:9102X

REQUIREMENTS

  • Devices must be on minimum firmware version 8.1 b1 or higher.
  • The Xfinity Stream Beta channel will only appear in the Roku channel store for eligible devices.
  • If you have two or more linked Xfinity accounts, see How to Link, Unlink and Switch Between Multiple Accounts for instructions on how to set the right default/primary account.
    Note that you may have to re-accept Terms of Activation if there are updates to your account or changes to your Xfinity TV package.

Activating the Xfinity Stream Beta App on Roku

  1. Open the app from the Xfinity Channel in the Roku Channel Store and choose Sign In.
    Note: You can find the Channel Store on the home screen of any Roku device by going to the “Streaming Channels” section in the left-hand menu.

  2. You’ll see the Activation Code screen on your Roku or Roku-connected device. Go toxfinity.com/authorizefrom another device (like a mobile phone, tablet or desktop - not from your Roku).

  3. From the web browser, enter the six-digit code provided from the Roku device.

  4. Enter your Xfinity ID and password, then selectSign In.

  5. You'll see aSuccess!message. The screen of your Roku or Roku-connected device will soon update.

  6. The Terms of Activation will load on your Roku-connected device or Roku TV. Scroll to read the terms and selectYesto accept and continue. If you selectNo Thanks, the activation process will restart.

  7. Name your device and selectConfirm.

  8. You’ll see the main menu and you’re ready to begin using the app!

Note: If you are experiencing issues activating the Xfinity Stream Beta app on Roku and have two or more linked Xfinity accounts, you may receive the following message: "Welcome! This device can only access Xfinity Stream on your in-home Xfinity WiFi. Use the app on your smartphone, tablet or laptop to watch on the go any time you like. Error TVAPP-00101."

To fix this, go tohttps://customer.xfinity.com/settings/account/linked-accountsand choose the account you wish to activate your Roku device from by selecting the Make This Primary option. Navigating the Xfinity Stream Beta App on Roku


MAIN MENU

If you have completed activation, the Main Menu will appear. (See our activation instructions for more information.)

SEARCH

Search for a movie, TV show or channel collection (i.e., network).

BROWSE

Browse Live TV and On Demand programs by TV, Movies, Networks, Sports, Kids & Family, News and Latino.

LIVE TV

View TV Listings for all of your channels, watch live TV, set episode or series recordings, and view the programs in a certain category -Favorite Channels, Kids & Family, Sports or Movies- that are on now or coming up soon. You can also filter live TV by High Definition, Free to Me, Video Description, Closed Captioning and Secondary Audio Program. Access Playback Controls to control accessibility settings, including Video Description, Secondary Audio Program and Closed Captioning.

Select Options (top left) within Live TV to Find a Channel, access Filter Preferences and Search. Selecting Search will take you to the main Search page, to search for a movie, TV show or channel.

Find a Channel: Find a channel by name or number.

Filter Preferences: Filter live TV by: High Definition, Free to Me, Video Description, Closed Captioning, and Secondary Audio Program.

Note: To access Playback Controls, you will need to press the down arrow on the Roku remote while watching live TV. This will present you with a caption icon. Use the Roku remote left and right arrows to highlight either Video Description, Secondary Audio Program or Closed Captioning. You can then select OK to turn the option on or off.

From any live channel, you can access the Mini Menu by selecting Mini Menu on the media player or pressing right on your Roku remote. Use the Mini Menu to discover and quickly change to other live channels.

SAVED

View the For You screen, Recordings, Scheduled Recordings or Purchases (when applicable).

  • Pressing the Instant Replay button on the Roku remote will skip back 15 seconds during DVR video playback.
  • Pressing the Directional Pad Left and Directional Pad Right, respectively, will rewind and fast forward during DVR video playback.

You can delete recordings by highlighting the TV episode, selectingModify Movie Recording, followed byDelete Recording.

Note: You cannot delete recordings in bulk (for example, an entire series) on your Roku device. However, this can be done directly on your TV Box or by using the Xfinity Stream app. You may also recover recordings that were deleted in the past 24 hours by navigating through the following menus -Saved > Recordings > Deleted Recordings- and selecting Undelete.

NEXT EPISODE PLAYBACK

When you’re near the end of an episode in a TV series and there are more episodes left, you’ll see a 30-second countdown and can press thePlay Nowbutton to auto play the next episode.

InSettings, if Autoplay is on, it’ll play after the 30 seconds is over or you can pressOKto choose thePlay Nowbutton.

ChoosingNo Thankswill close the window and take you back to the show’s episode list.

SETTINGS

Access app settings such asLanguage,Parental Controls,Accessibility, Autoplay Next Episode, FormatandHelpoptions.

Language settings allow you to set the default language for Secondary Language soundtracks (SAPoption in Playback Controls when available). Language settings do not change the language for menus or TV listings. SAP may experience intermittent availability in the Xfinity TV Beta app.

Parental Controls are device-specific. Even if you previously set Parental Controls for another device, you have to set them again for the Roku device, as Parental Controls default to theOffmode.

In order to modifyMovie RatingsorTV Ratingssettings, Parental Controls must be set toOn. Locking a rating will automatically lock allhigherratings. For example, locking the R rating will automatically lock the Adult and NC-17 rating.

TheAccessibilityoption providesAudio Guide(voice over) functionality on certain Roku devices. This feature can be accessed by navigating toSettings>Accessibility>Audio Guide, and is available on the following Roku devices:
  • Roku Streaming Stick (Models 3600, 3800 & 3810)
  • Roku Express (Models 3700 & 3900)
  • Roku Express+ (Models 3710 & 3910)
  • Roku Premiere (Models 4620 & 3920)
  • Roku Premiere+ (Models 4630 & 3921)
  • Roku Ultras (Models 4640 & 4660)
  • Roku Sound Bar (9100)

You can also turnVideo Description, which allows you to listen to an audio description of a program's key visual elements,OnorOffin theAccessibilitymenu.

TheAutoplay Next Episodeoption on will be on by default; this setting automatically plays the next episode of a TV series while. Turning it off will keep the next episode of a TV series from playing.

AFormatoption located in theSettingsmenu will allow you to automatically tune to the High Definition (HD) version of a live TV channel if you select the Standard Definition (SD) version.

TheHD Preferredoption is selected by default. Selection ofAll Available Formatswill tune to the SD or HD format of the channel that is selected.

The option toSign Outof the app on your Roku device is also available in theSettingsmenu. You can sign out by pressing theOKbutton your Roku remote.

Note:Signing out of the app will deactivate your device and you’ll be required toreactivate the deviceand accept the Terms of Activation again the next time you login. Alternatively, you can exit the app without deactivating the device. Press theLastbutton until you see the main menu, then selectSign Out. Press theLastbutton again to exit the app.
