ANSWERED: Troubleshooting TV No Picture, Black or Blue Screen

***Updated 7/13/2026***

Learn how to fix issues when your TV isn’t showing a picture, shows a blue or black screen, or has a “no signal” message.

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Make sure the TV and your TV Box are plugged into working power outlets.
  2. Hand-tighten all cable connections so they aren’t loose.
  3. If you’re using an HDMI cable, confirm that it’s plugged into the correct ports on the TV (HDMI1 or HDMI2) and the TV Box (HDMI out).
  4. Turn on the TV and the TV Box.
  5. Confirm that the TV is set to the correct input. This is the port on the back of the TV that your HDMI cable is plugged into. For example: if your HDMI cable is plugged into the HDMI 1 port on your TV, the TV input you will select is HDMI 1.
  6. If you've tried the steps above and there’s still no picture:
    • Press Exit > Exit > Exit > 720 on your Xfinity remote.
      • This sets the resolution to 720 and should bring the picture back.
    • To change the resolution again, press the xfinity button on your remote. Then go to the Gear Icon (settings) > Device Settings > Video Display, and choose the resolution you want.

If you still have issues, the Xfinity Assistant can help. It can walk you through troubleshooting steps, schedule an appointment, or connect you with an agent.
