Targert Offer Fraud still going around May 2025

I almost fell for this today   They are very good;  I thought I had recalled being told (officially when I changed my plan that I had a discount and I might need to renew it a year (though as I think about it it might have been for different service -- and it just played into my expecatons)

They were able to take my phone number and seem to look up my account and was able find my payment amount and date which is very concerning.     In thinking through the conversation I think they were able to get my phone number, email and address from me

Since then I've changed the email on the account and changed the password on the account (and already had two factor authentication on)

The original message came as a voice mail.     I called back (silly on my not checking the number)  -- it was [Edited: "possible malicious number"] which should have been my first  clue
They apparently checked my account and got my payment information and then offerred to cut in half.    I started getting suspicous when I logged into my account and realized my payments hadn't changed recently.
They offerred 50% discount for 3 years but with the catch I had to prepay for 10 months;   Seemed odd for comcast
Then they mentioned the target card and made it sound like a credit card offer that I cound cancel after using it.     Hackels getting raised a bit more  (they were smart enough to mention target sponship very early in the process which made it easier to believe)    - it was then when I started search for the offer online; and searching for xfinity target offer brought up posts about the fraud

Be wary.

Is there anything else I can do on my account to secure it?

@mmednick

If you have gotten a call claiming to be from Comcast asking you to buy gift cards or paying upfront for six months or more in exchange for 50% off your bill the FTC is well aware of this scam.  If you get a call like this you can report it to:     https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/
The FTC also has a great webpage on Scams.  Please check it out as well.
For Target Gift Cards:
Call 1 (800) 544-2943 and follow Target’s instructions.
Keep a copy of the Target gift card or your store receipt.
Please help to stop the spread of this kind of fraud.
Thanks!
