Scammer Able To Zero Account Balance By Initiating Payment

My Mother was the target of a scam this morning where the scammer seemingly wiped her balance to $0 but after talking with Xfinity customer support it seems like the scammer actually initiated a payment with the saved payment info to make it look like her account was cleared by an xfinity employee.

My mother had been receiving calls/voicemails about large discounts for charter/xfinity customers and called them back at [Edited: "Invalid Phone Number"]. She reached a man calling himself Noah [Edited: "Personal Information"] who explained that xfinity was going through tough times and to help retain customers that they have partnered with Target to help reduce the bills of xfinity customers. My mother gave him "confirmed" her address only and with that he was able to give her all of her account info including the last four digits of the billing info. To further prove that the scammer was an xfinity employee  and to sweeten the deal he said that he would clear her current balance for her. She logged into her xfinity account through her TV and was able to verify that the balance was changed to $0. Noah went on to explain that to get this deal you would need to purchase $960~ in Target gift cards and then call "Xfinity headquarters [Edited: "Invalid Phone Number"]" and give them the information from the gift cards, then you would not need to make an xfinity payment for a year and a half. He also gave a time limit and said that the deal would not last forever.

Immediately after getting off the phone she called me and I guided her through calling xfinity customer service to see how he was able to change her balance to $0 and they informed us that we made a payment earlier this morning. We explained the situation to customer support and they said they would escalate the issue. I had my mother change her password immediately (customer service surprisingly did not mention this), I'm guessing that the scammer had access to my mother's account somehow which is how he knew the last 4 of the billing info and was also able to initiate a payment.

Posting to spread awareness and add visibility to this scam that seems to be going around.

This scam has been going around for over a year and there have been many posts about it.  I suggest you get in touch with Target to let them know this is still going on and that your mother was a target [no pun intended].  It's doubtful she will get any money back from this.
