Xfinity refuses to unlock my paid for iphone

I spent more than 10 hours on the phone trying to get xfinity to unlock my phone and they refuse to do so.  I have owned my phone for years and have moved to a place that doesn’t have xfinity.  The support line people just keep saying they have done ever they can and that they don’t have anyone who can help me.  I’m at a loss here.  I can’t believe xfinity is holding my phone hostage and refusing to let me move service.  What a scam.

Carriers cannot unlock a phone when you no longer have an account with them, and obviously they can no longer port your phone number either. 

It’s time to search the web for someone who can unlock your phone.
