Wireless Caller

Facts:

We (wife and I) have a comcast (xfinity)land line.

Both our iPhones are version 11

Both iPhones purchased via Xfinity

All settings on both phones (with respect to calls) are identical.

When my wife uses her cell to call our land line we see her name and number.

When I use my cell to call our land line it shows 'Wireless Caller'

Question:

Why?  and how do I fix so it shows my name and number?

thanks.

Hi HealessHessian, thank you for reaching out to Xfinity Mobile through the Forum. I can understand and appreciate the concern with why this is happening, and how it can be fixed. I am happy to provide you information on why this is.

Under the Xfinity Mobile network, the only information that is transmitted when a wireless customer makes an outgoing call is the Mobile Device Number and the name 'Wireless Caller.' If any name other than 'Wireless Caller' is being displayed, that name is left over from the previous user, or stored in the called party's landline or cellular service database. This is rare and can occur when you port your numbers over.

Currently we do not have an option to modify the other lines that have defaulted to 'Wireless Caller' to a specific name. We are constantly working to improve our overall network and options, we had customers  request to have this an option to modify. We do not have an estimated time frame for if or when this will be available. My apologies, as this is not the best answer, please let me know if you have any other questions.

I understand your answer, basically you can't do a thing about this.  That makes no sense considering that you own the entire path from our cell phones (Iphones on Xfinity purchased from you) all the way to our land line (also on xfinity).

I can see where if there was another company involved you might say its their problem, but in this case it is your problem and you are not fixing it.

All issues we have ever had with Xfinity/Comcast have always been corrected properly, excepting this one.

Not sure if your issue has been fixed but apparently the customer service agent I talk to went deep enough to find out what caused it and fixed it for me yesterday apparently there is a new setting that is on by default with the new iOS 14 update called smart phone caller ID with name and NC you have to call Xfinity mobile and have them shut it off a lot of the customer service agents are not familiar with this because Well they literally just figured this out yesterday

Hi Mikeyt33:

thanks for your reply and suggesion.  I am not sure I understand what you are stating, can you please rephrase.

" iOS 14 update called smart phone caller ID with name and NC "  I looked on my iPhone, which is at version 14.2 and I see no setting called 'smart phone caller ID' and I do not understand why I would have to call Xfinity to do a setting that is related to iOS 14.

again I appreciate your response, and would like to get this corrected, I just do not quite grasp what you are saying.

cheers

I got this similar problem: when I call other people, their phone show name of the previous owner of my number, instead of my name or my number. It confused a lot of people I called.

Contacted xfinity customer support multiple times; they all tried hard but gave up on the issue each and every time. Today I contacted them again, support the agent says she will put in a ticket to have it changed to "Wireless Caller" in 72 hours; she explicitly said it's not possible to change it to showing my name my phone number. I'm afraid other people will stop picking my calls thinking they are spam calls when seeing that generic caller id instead of name or number.

Some suggested me to port my phone number to Google Voice (it's free, aside from one time $20 porting fee) and have the problem fixed there, then port it back to xFinity if I still like Xfinity enough. It's kind of hassle, but I don't know if I got any other choice.

Here is the problem: Xfinity Mobile does not support caller name id, therefore it does not send the names associated to each of their current numbers to Verizon, which then does not update its database and therefore updated names are not sent to the major landline and wireless providers who actually support caller name id.  Verizon users can change their shown names by logging into their accounts and by updating their call filter (formerly known as caller id) information and options, but XM does not have this option.

What can you do?: Your re-used phone number is most likely a Verizon owned phone number, so you might be able to call a Verizon representative and they might be able to change the "shown name".  If not you may have to ask XM to assign you a new phone number that does not have a legacy name associated with it. There are companies out there that claim they can fix the problem for a price.
