Switch to Xfinity Mobile from another carrier

If I switch to Xfinity mobile, do I need to contact AT&T to cancel my current mobile plan or is that done behind the scenes when I switch?

Hi, @user_d47835! Welcome to Xfinity! You will need to contact your previous provider to ensure the account has been disconnected.

My phone number was ported yesterday from T-Mobile to Xfinmobile but I have no service. T-mobile says number was ported.  I have no phone service to call xfinity who I did contact yesterday via a friend's phone it took hours but no solutions.  Now I have failed over and over to contact Xfinity.  Im just stuck out in space and no one with Xfinity has followed up.  I have no idea what to do.  Do I have to get a third service just to cancel and go back to T-mobile.  I've had the same phone number for years.  Help.
