READ BEFORE YOU TRAVEL: Deceived by Global Travel Pass "Reply Y" SMS — charged $551.98 instead of $10/day
If you're about to travel internationally with Xfinity Mobile, please read this — I was deceived by the "Reply Y" SMS activation for Global Travel Pass, and Comcast refused to fix it afterward.
While traveling in the Bahamas, I received Xfinity's own SMS: "Reply Y to add Global Travel Pass for $10/day while traveling." I replied Y exactly as instructed, trusting the company's own advertised process. Despite this, I was billed the full pay-as-you-go rate of $0.30/MB — $551.98 for a single day of data usage, instead of the $10/day I was promised.
When I called to dispute it, the representative told me the SMS was "informational only" and that I should have activated the pass in advance through the app — which flatly contradicts what the SMS itself says. They refused to escalate or issue a credit.
Looking through this forum, I've found several other customers reporting the exact same thing — Global Travel Pass not working as advertised, no warning when it reverts to pay-as-you-go, and inconsistent answers from support. This looks like a real pattern, and I felt genuinely misled by how it was marketed to me.
My advice: don't rely on the SMS "Reply Y" method. Activate Global Travel Pass in advance through the app, and screenshot every confirmation message you get — because you may need it to dispute charges later.
I am seeking a full refund of the incorrectly charged amount and would appreciate Comcast's official support team addressing this here or via DM. I've filed a formal Notice of Dispute with Comcast's Legal Department, and complaints with the BBB and FCC. Posting here so others don't get caught by the same thing.
