Porting number from Google Voice to Xfinity Mobile
I just got a new cell phone on Friday, I went through the activation process but it appears to be stuck porting the number from Google Voice. It's already been 48 hours and there's no updates on the website. Does it really take this long to port a number over? It's my understanding that this usually happens within a day or so.
Thanks

@ddez - Thanks so much for choosing Xfinity! Great question. If all of your information is correct, the transfer process from most major carriers will be complete within 10 minutes. For some smaller carriers, it can take up to an hour. If you're transferring the number from a landline or wireline, it takes, on average, five business days. Read more here.
We'll send you a confirmation email when you're good to go. We'll also email you if there's an issue with the transfer, with instructions on what to do next. And you can always visit https://comca.st/3S3HgxQ to check your activation status.

did you pay the $3 to port out your google voice number? you can log into your google voice and go to settings to check if porting is ok. Google voice automatically won't let you port out unless you pay the $3 bucks to allow porting.

The process and timeframe for port from Google Voice comes up quite a bit on this forum. Google Voice is considered by the FCC as a landline provider, so Google Voice must follow the much more strict and complex process for landline porting. That is why it takes days rather than minutes to complete a port. Not Google's fault or xfinity's fault. Just the FCC rules. Might be done in 2 business days, but could take several more in some cases. Here is what to look for along the way:
1. To unlock your Google Voice number to to https://www.google.com/voice/unlock and set up a PIN number for the Google Voice number Voicemail prior to the PORT. When asked by Xfinity for the account number it will be the 10 digit Google Voice number (no spaces or other characters) and the PIN will be your Voicemail PIN. After you unlock your Google Voice (GV) number, there should be a notation saying "Unlocked" in account settings next to the number.
2. If you correctly then initiate a port with xfinity, that box will either disappear (as it did for me) or it will change to "Unlocked (approved)". This is the sign that the ball now rests with xfinity to complete the port. This change should happen within minutes or at most hours of when you initiate the port with xfinity. If it does not change, and if it remains saying "Unlocked", then something went wrong with the port request.
3. After 2 business days or so (weekends not included), you should see that your GV phone number no longer appears on your GV account. This is the sign that the number has ported. BUT, that does not mean everything is done. Usually, at that point, your phone should activate successfully and get a cell signal. It should also be able to do outbound calls. However, to get inbound call as well and inbound texts might take several more days in some cases.
4. I some rare cases, the ability to get inbound texts from other carriers does not go through. In that case, wait a full week from port date, and then call xfinity to have them fix the issue. They will have to send another request to the group that configures text transfers to fix their directories.

Just to add another data point. Latest port I did from Google Voice last week. Submitted on Thursday around noon. Just completed today (following Monday) around 3pm. So about 48 hours of 'business days" and about 4 total days including weekend. Just to give others an idea of porting times for Google Voice and perhaps other VOIP and landline equivalent carriers.
