Pixel 4a 5G - Only connects to LTE not 5G

Was wondering if anyone else is having an issue with the Pixel 4a on 5G.  I just upgraded my Xfinity to an Pixel 4a 5G and unable to connect to 5G.  When I look at my plan on the APP it still shows that I am on the unlimited LTE plan.  I ordered the phone straight from XFinity.  Anyone else had this problem?  I tried to reset the Network settings but no luck.  When I go to SIM details it says LTE Data.  I know I am in a 5G area as my coworker who is on Xfinity with our iPhone gets 5G.

did you switch your XM plan to 5G? Because 5G is not available in all areas, they have not forced all of us to switch to the 5G plan, yet.

A few weeks ago the Xfinity Mobile advert for the 4a5G said the phone was still only 4G capable, but that an update would provide a fix in early December.  Have you told your phone to check for updates?

interesting. best to contact XM chat support and have them do a network refresh on your account. could just be provisioning on XM end.

Spoke with Tech support and looks like the Pixel 4a 5G does not support 5G until sometime around Christmas 😞  Love the phone, but wish they would make note of that on their website.

It sorta does -- sorta. Note 2 on https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/shop/phone/pixel-4a--5g--google says:

5G service available beginning in December 2020 via a software update. Requires a 5G data plan (sold separately). 5G service and roaming not available on all carrier networks or in all areas. Contact Xfinity Mobile for details about current 5G network performance, compatibility, and availability. Phone connects to 5G networks, but 5G service, speed and performance depend on many factors including, but not limited to, carrier network capabilities, device configuration and capabilities, network traffic, location, signal strength and signal obstruction. Actual results may vary. Some features not available in all areas. Data rates may apply. See g.co/pixel/networkinfo for info.

Me and my wife both have the 4a 5g as we upgraded to 5g phones. As of today aug 23, it won't connect to 5g. Never has, and we had the phones for several months. Talked to a chat rep, said I need to go into a store for them to check. I asked if it could be a sim card issue, she said possible, and in order to rule that option out I ordered new sims for both our phones.

Why advertise a 5g phone if it's not capable until an update? 8 months later than advertised update and still no 5g.

I know 5G is exciting and we always want you to be able to access the fastest service available. If you haven't already, please check that you are in a 5G capable area by visiting our site here https://comca.st/3B6KwQA. About halfway down the page there is a spot to enter your ZIP Code to check what services are available. If you are in a 5G capable area, I recommend giving our Xfinity Mobile Team a call at 1 (888) 936-4968 for further assistance.
