Phone Upgrade Wont Process Online

I have 3 lines with Xfinity.  2 phones were purchased through Xfintity and I was able to upgrade them with new phones.  The third line is connected to a phone that is a bring your own phone.  I cannot upgrade this phone, I I get a message that says I don't have any lines to upgrade to.  I tried establishing a new line but when I say I want to keep my number, it says its already in use.  I don't want to establish a new number.  Why can't I upgrade this phone?
